I know that some of your girls are piercers as well as strippers (me too!) and I think that it is awesome to know that I am not the only one with that particular crossover. As some of you know, I am also apprenticing to be a tattoo artist (and should actually be done this year - so exciting!) and I was wondering if any of you girls are tattoo artists as well?
I know that it is still a seriously male-dominated field (though more and more women are getting involved) and I was wondering how you felt that being a dancer as well influences your career as an artist, if at all.
Tattoo artists are known for loving strippers, and I know that in my city, artists DO frequent the clubs, including mine. Tattoo artists are also known for a whole bunch of other stereotypes, most of which involve being at least a little sexist. And while I know not all artists fit these stereotypes, I've been in the industry for a few years, and honestly, the majority of them really do.
I am a little concerned about how stripping may affect my career, and wanted any input from people in a similar situation. At the moment, lots of artist have seen me at work, but all already knew me, so it wasn't a big deal. I'm a little more concerned about going to a shop looking for a spot and realizing I've taken money from the guys there..or being judged as less talented because I'm a stripper. It has already been suggested once or twice that I "fucked my way into an apprenticeship", or that I would be more likely to get clients, jobs etc if I gave them a dance as well as a tattoo. And I cannot count the number of times guys have told me they'll tattoo me if I pay them in dances...sometimes its all in good fun, sometimes its downright creepy.
Has anyone else found this industry (tattooing) surprisingly judgemental of stripping?
