Spironolactone is reasonably effective against acne topically, in which case you wouldn't have to worry about excess potassium. It's soluble in alcohol but not very stable. So, you have to mix it up right before you use it. Your dermatologist may be more willing to prescribe it for you for topical use. The other way to go is to use it orally in combination with a potassium-wasting diuretic, such as HCTZ. It is an extra pill you have to take, and if your blood pressure is on the low-normal side it wouldn't be a good idea. It is more convenient than having to mix up spiiro and put it on your face every night, however.
However you use it, spiro is not going to make your acne go away in just a few day. You need corticosteroid injections into the pimples for that kind of quick change. That's a procedure that a derm's office should do.

A dermatologist prescribed it for me and they did reg blood tests and follow ups. I dont see why that would be a problem for your derm...ugh isnt that why they became a skin specialist?? Maybe try finding a new derm. And it took about 3 months to see a full result for me.

^that sucks! Id be pissed! Diane and Yasmin work in a similar way to spiro if you need something quick btw.

Diane worked for me, when it comes it acne. It was the first BC I was ever on and it really helped control the pimples.
Docs in Canada don't like the idea of prescribing Spiro for acne either. Boo.

spiro costs...80$generic...220$brand name
...it takes 4 weeks in your system to work.....a dermatologist perscribes it, if your derm wouldn't give it to you then you need a new derm...cause that one is useless.
...some derms require a blood test some dont.
...Yaz is beter then yasmine for acne btw.
