    Thumbs down Dating gaming addicts

I am a gamer myself....I have a nintendo DSI and I play pokemon on it at work. I play 360 on occasion (Just bought Naughty Bear, where you play a homicidal teddy bear and you have to kill other teddy bears) but this is RIDICULOUS!!!!! He is on there for hours on end!

One time him and his brother played for 15 HOURS straight. The room looked like a crackhouse with cans of red bull strewn about.

I know how you feel. I too am a Gamer (addicted to my Gameboy, Wii and PC games) but some people are way addicted where it takes over their life. My last ex "Flakey" was addicted to gaming where he couldn't leave his house for hours at a time.

    Angry Re: Dating gaming addicts

I am living through this nightmare now because someone thought WOW and whatever the latest one was wasn't enough when there were constant reapers, medics needed, mineral exchanges, etc . Now we have Rift. And, of course, we must pre order so we can have the special advantages and powers you get through pre order so you don't have to go buy the $60+ book to learn the sneaks. Then, of course, we must, when not playing the game, use the forum to discuss how we ripped, raped, and owned.

I am a bleeping idiot because I just paid half on a $500 video card to "make everything look real".( I asked what he wanted for his birthday, and even though it can sometimes annoy me I'm not going to deny you your birthday wish just because I don't enjoy it.) Real, like outside looks. Like reality looks. That place you never go anymore. Looking out the window doesn't count because the tree outside doesn't have enough pixels or whatever to look that crisp! I'm so sick of the word crisp. I wish ventrilo would crash and burn so he couldn't host. I'm tired of having to move his character so he won't get kicked off when he runs to the store for me as I'm ill and can't drive because it'll take 3 hrs to log back in like I give a damn!

I have played this game and it can be fun but not play as soon as I get off work, get up early before I go to work and play so I can level so I won't be left behind kind of fun. I understand my bf is still young and some of this is to be expected, but it's getting really ridiculous. Like obsessive to the point where there is nothing else in his life except this. Every request is followed by," wait, let me kill this or finish this game." 10, 20, 40 mins rolls by and when he realizes I'm gone he's pissy because I didn't wait. My life doesn't revolve around a video game and if he is gonna let his that's on him. At the height of my drug usage, I didn't have to get high before I made every move. I didn't get high from the time I woke up. I didn't get high before I went to bed. I didn't check in with my dealer to make sure drugs would be there later so I could plan to get high as soon as I returned from whatever real life diversion I had. His addiction to this game is out there and I'm starting to crack. I have some serious problems and he is kind and understanding about them, but this is really starting to grate on my last nerve.

Also, he is visiting/living with me for a few months since I moved outta state and I must say I was happier with our relationship when I lived alone with the dog. I've told him how I feel but he says it's just because the game is brand new blah blah blah. It's not new anymore. It's been out since 22nd or so of last month. I don't know what to do. I'm frustrated and angry as hell.

^^^ OMG your dating my ex. Its uncanny how familiar that sounds. I'll admit I was a WOW and gaming addict for a long time, but then I grew up and had bills to pay and college to finish and the ex decided that neither working a job or finishing college was important enough to interfere with his gaming so I made him my ex. Your not as big an idiot as I am though, I spent 2 grand on him and his gaming buddy to keep the rent paid and buy new games/equipment before I got smart. eww I was so naive.

Well the bill paying is not really an issue. Bills and everything else get paid. It's just that it annoys me to see him devote his life to something that is going to get him nothing but entertainment. It was diff when he was competing and being paid to play. I could understand that, but hours upon hours for personal enjoyment all to the alienation of your hot ass gf. WTF! I'm trying to understand that the age barrier plays a part and I shouldn't be so dismissive of his past time. I'm also trying to learn to play. I mean whacking the hell out of that spider with my staff while trying to take the *** that it gave was cool because then i could heal others, but seriously, it's enjoyable for only so long. I live in a new city and because of work/lack of outside interests I didn't go out much when I first moved here. Now I have a built in someone to go out with and brand new places to go. We did that for a minute when he first got here and now it's computer computer computer. It crashed for a day/two and he stayed up for days then slept for days while it was being repaired because he was depressed about it. My laptop constantly gives me problems and I'm not gonna die.

Well, my husband's gaming was a deal breaker for me, and it's why I divorced him (we later remarried and have a beautiful daughter). We have worked out a compromise-he games one weekend a month non-stop, and I get one weekend a month free to do as I see fit. He can also game when our daughter is asleep and I am at work. This works for us.

being a gaming addict is a deal breaker for me. i feel like being addicted to video games is just as bad as being addicted to drugs-- it is choosing to exist in a reality other than this one.

if the most fun you can have out of lie is staring at a 2 dimensional screen while hitting buttons with your fingers that says something negative to me.

plus i went to a school full of gamers. we did not get along.
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

To be fair for most people the most fun they get out of life is staring at a 2 dimensional screen while NOT hitting any buttons, unless it's to change the channel.

    Good point!

I have never been involved with a serious game player, so I can't really say much more than that.

My bf saw this and posted it on his gaming site. Check out some of the responses. Some of these ppl are hardcore. The funniest one said," a gamer with a gf, yeah right." The other was one that said," a forum for strippers, hhhaaa hhhhaaaaaaa!"

someone who is addicted to TV would be another deal breaker. i watch tv on hulu and netflix and its normal to follow tv shows, but if someone spends more time watching tv than living we wouldnt get along. i believe in experience.... if somebody doesnt like adventure and to experience new things then i would get bored of them quickly.

alright, im not a grammar nazi, but really? "what our girlfriend's right about"? you should tell him he has already admitted to you being right in the title here.

ugh and browsing thru these posts reminds me why i hated college. i went to a school with a bunch of nerds who had similar attitudes. barf.

also tell your boyfriend not to PM any of these guys the link to this forum. we really dont need a bunch of gaming trolls coming on here.

What games does he play? My ex was a huge Call of Duty fan when were together and he would play for HOURS, to the point where I wanted to hit him with a frying pan every time I heard the words "BOOM HEADSHOT!"

I got him off that crap with my little technique that never failed. I'd take off all my clothes, jump in his lap and start playing with his junk. I'd then take his headset/mic and tell his friends "Guys, can you let Crimson leave the match? I'm really horny and he won't have sex with me because of you guys."

They would usually start yelling at him and say "Dude go get some!" and tease him if he didn't sign out right away. Once he was playing with one of his co-workers when I did that, now everytime we hang out with him it's a little awkward. =p But it never failed!

Just make sure to set some boundaries with gaming time and couple time. I love a good RPG or third-person shooter (Mass Effect!), but gaming cannot be your whole life. My mom's marriage to her second husband was destroyed because they were both addicted to MMORPGs. Just draw the line in the sand and don't let either of you cross it.

My current guy is a huge call of duty nut. His clan tag or whatever on mw2 is ELLE, haha. wrex, I love your tactics! They totally do work. Usually I don't ever have to even go that far.

Dated another guy OBSESSED with final fantasy. His parents were the same way. Over the course of the year I dated him, they gained at least thirty pounds just sitting in front of the computer for hours and hours on end every night. It was actually kind of sad. His mom looked at the time she had logged on the game once and just broke down and cried.

I love xbox games. I get addicted to games when Im having a blast (10 hours with 2 hour break one time - Dragon Age!)

Talk to him, tell him to give you time as well. But let the guy have his fun. We want to do our own thing and to be left alone... If it gets over-board where he is ignoring you, caneling dates, doesnt answer you when you ask stuff, stays on it 24/7 then have a serious talk, a day out of the week or two isnt bad! its a good way to relax.

I'm not much of a gamer but I lived in a house full of them.. and its not a pretty site.. Trash everywhere.. clothes all over the floor, everyone over 200 pounds.. Yuck.. I do play games but only when i have nothing else to do.. and thats rare. Its a deal breaker for me.. Wrex, I love your strategy but that didn't work for me.. I wish it did but I believe he had no shame... He would drop everything even me cause he had a meeting to go to in the game..

But now my family doesn't fuck around when i say off the game.. Cause they knew if nicey nicey lass isn't getting any action brings out the batty watty.. And there is no cheat code to fix that..
