Hey! I have one of those! Mine’s an Irwin-Pedersen made in 1944. Don’t have the 30 rounders, though… only the 15s. From my understanding, the 30s were sometimes too heavy for the M1 mag release, so they beefed it up for the M2.
My roommate had several Mosin-Nagants. The 1891, Cossack, Dragoon, and 91/30 were a bit unwieldy for me, but the M44 just beat the living shit out of my shoulder. What’s this thing with guys who own guns and their refusal to get butt pads? Seriously?

I never liked Russian stuff. I would like to have a Mannlicher–Schönauer rifle. But that's as old, and primitive as I can get.
I like being alone, I just don't like being lonely.

Mosin Nagant recoil seems both legendary and mysterious. A friend let me shoot his, and it does not seem it should be that bad, and I didn’t think it was until about an hour later. I think it must have more to do with the stock geometry than anything else.

I always wondered why Carbines were not more popular. Several years ago the downtown Houston Woolworth was selling rebuilt Carbines for $99 and Garands for $125. It seemed everyone downtown was carrying a rile. I didn’t buy one, and am still kicking myself.
This is what a rifle I might be interested looks like these days. Ehh...
