    Default Homework Help

    Hi ladies.

I'm no longer dancing due to the fact that I got a nice internship and school's getting pretty intense. However I miss it terribly and I've told my boyfriend we're getting a pole as soon as we move in together!

I'm studying Graphic Design and my newest assignment is that we have to design a magazine on a topic of our choice. I'm choosing Pole Dancing, both recreational and professional. Here's a bit of the details:

    - We don't have to write the articles (we'll be using a default filler body of text for the appearance of articles) but we do need headlines - costume resources, diet tips, exercise tips, hair and skin maintenance, etc.

    - We need photos supporting our topics

    - This magazine is for PORTFOLIO USE ONLY and WILL NOT BE PUBLISHED.

So here's what I'm asking of you girls if you would not mind helping me with my homework:

    • If you subscribed to a Pole Dancing Magazine, what kind of articles would you like to see?
    • What sort of Ads would you expect to see?

Most of all, and I do mean MOST OF ALL, I need PICTURES. They MUST be high-resolution (so not taken with a cell-phone), poledancing photos, makeup photos, hair photos, shoes/costumes, etc.

I do realize that many of us are very sensitive about our images being put out there and distributed, but I assure you that these photos are only for the purpose of this assignment and will not leave my portfolio. This "magazine" is a prototype that will never see a printer's press and no one is going to pay to see it. It is strictly for the sake of fulfilling the assignment.

I am asking if any of you would be so kind as to donate information and any stock photos you may have or at the very least link me to somewhere where I can find high-res photos. Google Image Search has given me absolute shit when it comes to pictures.

Honestly I think you will be hard-pressed to find quality photos that directly relate to pole dancing, other than ones you can find on the pole websites like X-pole, PS, and Lilminx. I don't know when this assignment is due but I would suggest just doing a shoot yourself, I know at my school all the graphic design students have access to things like photography equipment and lights, if your school has the same take advantage of it! Maybe you have a couple friends that would be willing to model outfits? Or you could contact costume stores and ask if they would be willing to lend you some costumes to shoot too if you don't want to just feature your dancing outfits in the project. Maybe some friends from your old club would also be able to model for you, you could ask the manager at your old club if you could use the club as a shoot location? Then you could take some really awesome photos of some neat pole tricks! I think the pole dancing and costume bits will be most difficult to take care of, diet, excersise, and beauty tips you can just use stockphotos or stuff off of flickr.com for right?

Speaking of flickr, this photostream has soe pretty decent pictures I'm sure you could work into ads or something, or hey, you could use them as pictures in an article about pole dancing in beijing, which is where the photos were taken, here's the link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/chinapi...n/photostream/

As for articles that I would like: I think your cover/feature article should be about a prominent professional pole dancer that has some titles? Like Felix Cane, etc. I think you could also throw in a few articles about women's lifestyle in general, dating tips, sex articles, articles about work/the office/your boss. Maybe articles about activities similar to pole dancing like gymnastics, dance, performance arts, etc. Maybe an article about party planning or cocktail recipes? Think about what kind of women pole dance and what kind of activities they are likely to also do in their daily lives and how old they are, are they married, do they have kids? These kinds of things will influence what kind of stuff you want in there.

This project sounds like a lot of work, good luck on it!

Thanks a bunch for the tips. I don't have a ton of time for the assignment and unfortunately my old club won't allow photos at all. There are no closed off areas during dayshift, and no one will come in when the club's closed, and the City penalizes if anyone is in the club after 2am :\

I've considered asking some of my old dancer buddies if they'd like to model dancing, but one issue there is none of them have poles at their homes. The pole is the main reason I'm turning to stock photography. The bit about friends modeling outfits and shoes is great though!

I'm sure a pole dancing studio would let you use their space for some shots of tricks, you might have to pay them a bit to use the space and their pole, but that's another option!

Hey Autumn Lily! Nice to see you around again.

I don't have any pole pictures - I'm sorry. If I modeled at all I would let you use them, but I'm seriously Camera shy.

Otherwise, for the writing part of your magizine I would like to see:

Ads: Costume distributors, Dance shoe ads (Pleaser, Elle etc), Vitamin ads, Ads for 100-calorie snacks or protein bars or something like that (for the sake of eating quickly at work), Professional Quality makeup/cosmetics (or even Mac stuff). I'm not big on ads for a location specific salon or hair extensions or anything because - as a Canadian - I usually don't have access to the specific locations that offer the products in the advertisement.

Articles: I'd love to read reviews and how-to's to more cutting edge cosmetic procedures (Like Jab-A-Tan, Endermology, injectable fills etc). Also, reviews on Poles (different types: Best apartment poles, best extended poles, spinning vs fixed etc). Articles on diet and health of course - indepth ones, not just the usual stuff you read in magazines.

Maybe a Pole trick of the month?

I hope I helped a little. I focused more on pole dancing for stripping, not so much fitness, but hopefully something I wrote out helped a little. Good luck with your program!!!

I recently did a pole photo shoot, I have the un-photoshopped pics, I could pick out a few of the better ones if you like, as long as they're not published it's fine. When is it due by? With a bit of luck I'll get the edited ones soon.

    PM me if you're interested

^ I agree! There's a Pole Trick pic thread somewhere, think it's in need of a bump
