So, we had a pretty solid night last night at the club. Lots of energy, multiple girls on stage, tons of people to talk to -- but there was one pervasive problem that kept me both from making more than $20/hr average, and feeling comfortable: the number of times I caught myself in the dressing room with a cigarette bitching, "UGH, THIS IS NOT FUCKING eHARMONY!"
Throughout the course of the evening, I had a number of guys giving me their phone numbers, and asking me what I was doing after closing -- and not in a "maybe a little extra" sense. These guys were legitimately trying to pick up strippers! I didn't want to be rude and say, "Well, after I'm done working, I'm going to drink a beer in my shower and snuggle with my amazing boyfriend," but that's what I felt the entire night. Additionally, there was a female custy there who'd brought her boyfriend along, but kept yelling at me every time I tried to hang out with him -- and, mind you, he was tipping me and properly playing along with the hustle the entire time.
How do you guys deal with customers who don't seem to understand the dynamic that goes on in a burlesque club? Our regulars fully grasp the concept of how a strip club works, understand that the dancers are at work and lead lives outside of the club, and know how wholly inappropriate it is to try to take a girl home after close. But there were so many custies there treating it like a regular bar!
