    Travel Flying with a pole

Just out of curiosity, if I wanted to take my pole on a plane, would it class as sports equipment?

You would probably have to contact the airline, as each one is diffent. I have the multi piece PS pole and was thinking about checking it in the hold in a long duffel bag.

Sounds like a good story will come of this question in a few months. Let me know how things go.

I flew home with my X-Pole at Christmas 2 years ago without any issues, although I had to explain at every security checkpoint what was in my luggage. Expect security to take a little longer than usual.

Yes, you will probably need to declare you're bringing sports equipment with you when you book the flight. Make sure you check with your airline before showing up at the airport with your pole!

As for the actually packaging, I found a box at the local UPS store that was big enough for the bag with the pole segments but still fit within the airline's luggage size requirements. (The UPS store employee had to cut the box 2 inches shorter, but he had a nifty little gadget for doing that. It was really easy.) When I flew out, I packed the top and base plates in my checked suitcase. They arrived with a ding in the top plate though, so on the way back I just carried them as one of my carry on bags.

    Hope that helps. =)

I was surprised no one said anything about flying with a broom.
