Thumbs up just had my first professional massage...

and holy shit...what took me so long?! I'm a long distance cyclist and I've had chronic neck and shoulder pain from the crouched position for YEARS. After returning to dancing, it has gotten substantially worse. I just always stretch it out, take some ibuprofen, and move on. But over the past two weeks it has been getting unbearably painful. So I went for a deep tissue massage this afternoon and I swear to you, it was like the angels were singing down from the heavens!

I mean, it hurt like hell at times, and I'm sore now...but I can turn my head without pain. I cannot believe how much of a difference it made. I'm a believer!

Excellent! I was made a believer in chiropractic (for some things, at least) after they fixed a neck problem I'd had for years! The problem never returned either.

If you haven't ever watched Jacob's Ladder, you should rent it.

When I had a professional job I went once a week at least. It relieved a lot of stress in my body and got rid of lumps I had and everything. Deep tissue is great because it will break up scars in your muscles and rejuvenate. Once I got a professional full time job again I will resume my weekly appointments. Also, I have arthritis and it relieved my problems completely.

    Tampa Dancer:

Are you a racer? If not check out Rivendell Bicycles for the ultimate on ergonomics/positioning:

I think they know what they're talking about -even if it contradicts a lot of the conventional wisdom about what a high quality bike should be like. I'm flying out to Frisco shortly to have one built.

    Good luck.

James - I don't race but I have considered it. I rode the transamerica last summer and crossed paths with several RAAM riders in KS (they were headed east, I was going west), and I must admit that sparked something in me.

Thanks for the link, I will def check it out. I have had my bikes tweaked several times through fittings. I think that the pain on the left side of my body (left shoulder, left hip) is from an accident I had last year. I was hit (on my bike) by an F150 at about 40 mph. He t-boned me...claimed he never saw me. It shattered my carbon frame, and I dented his bumper and busted his headlights with my body from the impact. I walked away with just major, deep tissue bruises. But I think something may be surfacing from that now...

I've found going to a chiropractor helpful when I had back pain.
