    Default DOMS solutions

I've been working out like crazy lately and I've gotten used to feeling a little sore or stiff after upping my intensity... but nothing like this! I had a ton of energy and went WAY too long yesterday. My thighs are sore to the touch and going down my stairs is absolute agony, I'm shaky and massaging the tissue literally brings tears to my eyes. Not my smartest or proudest moment

I've tried icing them, soaking in a tub, massaging (HURTS!), Advil, everything I can think of. I'm pretty sure it needs time and some babying, but are there any other solutions? I've heard about people taking amino acids to try to reduce the effects? I don't like the idea of oversupplementing but I was wondering if anyone else had success with this.

In the future I'll definitely be more careful, increasing intensity more slowly and paying more attention to thorough stretching afterwards. Will anything but time reduce the immediate pain I'm in?

Also, working out again = good idea or bad idea? I was thinking about hitting the gym for some low intensity cardio to try and bring circulation into the sore areas... but I don't want to make it any worse than it is right now :s

Ouchie! You poor thing! I wish I had some advice for you or something, but I'm really not that much of a workout guru so I don't know what to suggest other than what you're already doing. I really hope you feel better soon! I've over-worked myself a couple times in the past and the only thing that helped was time. Are you sure you didn't actually pull any muscles? The Advil should help with inflammation, so try and take it easy. Maybe a nice easy walk for today?

    Take care and feel better!

Glutamine and amino acids are supposed to help with muscle repair, so maybe try drinking a protein shake or taking these next time? And I would definitely wait until you are less sore to go back to the gym....

You can say that again.. not just on here but men in general. Guys are so damn lame, the only way they can halfway make up for it is by opening their wallets.

I'm takin glutamine already, maybe I should try BCAAs? A trainer at my gym suggested I try them, they're supposed to help with repair but I'm really careful about what I put in my body and I don't want to oversupplement. Have you tried any/found them helpful?

Yeah I tried to go back and could barely handle walking. Tomorrow I'll hit the gym again... slowly and more carefully. I feel really stupid, I know better.

What about those hot/cold gels that you massage in for pain relief? I hope you feel better soon!

Low intensity cardio helps with doms and stiffness. I like incline treadmill walking, elliptical, stepmill, rollerblading, or yoga and if I can handle a little more spin or kickboxing. I always feel better after.

Thank you ladies for all your help! I went out and bought a pre-workout supplement (thanks for the recommendation JD I'm trying it) and I'm gonna hit the gym again today. I hurt but some low intensity something or other should be okay.

It sounds crazy but I found that Vick's Vapo-Rub worked superficially too - it didn't stop the pain but the additional sensation was really nice as a relief.

Definitely gonna go slower and easier today!!
