Default I want to get a piercing..

I'm thinking of a stud in my nose and a bellybutton piercing. I'm holding it off cause I'm still looking up information and I need a treat for my newest goal. I'm going to try to lose 30 pounds but mostly shape my legs and arms, and flatten my tummy.

My questions are what should I be looking for in a piercing shop? I'm told you start with a beginner stud/ring. I have been reading some of the older threads and it six months for the belly piercing and a month for the stud. I know that I toss and turn in my sleep, can I wear a band-aid over my nose piercing to help protect it? Can I do something similar for the belly piercing?

Any tips will help and thank you.

Unless you have lace pillow cases or something for your nose ring to actually catch on... it shouldn't be an issue. I toss and turn and rub my face all over my pillow/sheets/SO and I've never had an issue. ;P And putting a bandaid over a belly ring will likely just push it to the side and make it heal crooked. Most shops will ONLY pierce your belly with a hoop (because somehow they insist that barbells are harder to clean or some nonsense) so there's really not anything you could catch it on in your bed.

In looking for a shop... you have to go in and physically look through their portfolios... There are beautiful, clean shops that will charge you $120 for a belly ring and it'll be crooked and with the wrong jewelry... and there are shops that literally do crazy cheap piercings and have REALLY good piercers.

As far as the jewelry they put in... the shop provides it... and it'll be basic and silver. Healing time is different for everyone... so it could be a bit longer before you can swap it out... it could take a little less time.

I used to pierce, and when I had a client who was moving or not from the area ask me what to look for in a shop, I'd usually simply tell them, if the piercing room doesn't remind you somewhat of a doctor's office, leave.

In other words, it should be very clean, the piercer should never touch the jewelry or you without gloves, they should go into good detail about aftercare and healing, and prep the area to be pierced (with surgical scrub, not alcohol), and answer any and all questions of yours.

Jewelry probably will be plain steel (surgical grade), but there are some shops that carry surgical steel jewelry that have gems, but these will be more expensive.

Navels take 6-12 months to heal. You can't take it out until it's healed, and no swimming! Pool water and Ocean water is gross, normal showering is fine.
Nostrils take 4-6 months to heal. Same deal. Your piercer should go over aftercare.

If you are one of those people who tend to take out their piercings in their sleep a bandaid wouldn't be the worst idea for sleeping, but you might take it out when you pull the bandaid off. Nostril screws tend to get pulled out easily.

@DesuvsDeath: I've heard of shops overcharging so that way people thought since they paid more they got a higher quality. Shitty, huh?

I recently had my medusa done, and took it out a week later bc I decided I didnt like it. Theres a tiny hole now but its hardly noticable. If you dont like it you can always take it out.
