Exclamation It's got to be on here somewhere....

I know there has to be a thread somewhere on her that step by steps how-to make a website....I really don't have much of a clue about html but I want to design my own website.

I have already purchased my domain so here is what I need

    1. What to use to design it?

    • I want to have a members only section in addition to approximately 3 pages
    • I would like to have photo galleries and short video clips
    • I would like a page where custies can purchase underwear, pic sets, videos, calenders, etc

    • I would like to have a calendar set up where they can book private shows according to my availability

Am I in WAY over my head?

If I were to pay someone to create this for me then would I be able to moderate it myself? Or would it be very difficult to change things?

    Thanks In Advance!!!!

Likely that the hosting company--where your domain resides--has a Web-based tool and templates for building a simple site. Log into your site's backend and look for the "dashboard." There is where you'll find the tools to build what you need. Now, if you want to conduct e-commerce (selling stuff), that is a bit more complicated, but again many hosting companies provide basic templates for this.

I would use Wordpress, it's a blog-style CMS and you can most likely install it with the click of a button from your webhost's control panel (using a feature called Fantastico I think). Wordpress is VERY easy to use and customize, it's much easier than starting from scratch.

Are you going for basic functioning website or a bit fancier? Wordpress is great for beginners and easy easy easy to use. It's also really customizable.

If you're looking for actual web design you might want to pm dixievista!

I love the calendar idea, that's cute! *writes that down* haha.

I am really hoping for something kinda fancy....I absolutely don't want it to "look" like a blog and I would love to be able to easily transition to offering streaming video when I am ready for that.

Go for it girl! Wordpress is good for the members only sites and stuff like that (i like joomla, too.. but apparently joomla isn't as highly praised as WP around here), using a password plugin for WP isn't so hard, plus wordpress also has a wonderful community forum where you can get lots and lots of help - but if you aren't so great with html you can always find a drag and drop website creator online or at a computer/electronics store. I use bookfresh.com for bookings- and I'm pretty sure you can integrate it. With the streaming video- make sure you find a host that allows you to offer streaming video (ie. hostgator will not allow streaming content) As long as you have a way of accepting payments for physical goods- you are set.. but the streaming may be an issue unless you are just using a plugin from SM/Clips4Sale.. this part I'm not 100% on... but I've been doing research like crazy to figure out how to host my own stream. When I figure it out, I'll let u know.. and if you figure it out before me.. please let me know But yea, once you start tinkering around with things- you will get a hold of it pretty quickly. Good Luck!
