Default Let's Talk About Fitness After 30

I'm in my early thirties and I am noticing that working out at least 3 times a week is a must now. I am also noticing more looseness to my skin than before, part of this may be because I do mostly cardio and not enough weight lifting. I am about to embark on the second phase of my dancing career and going to try for a top tier club in the major cities (probably in manhattan) So I am looking for a very tight and toned look. I would love for girls over 30 to tell me about your fitness routine; schedule, duration and special classes like spin, pilates etc that you are doing now that you have hit your 30's. Please only respond if you are a (live) dancer currently (I love my cam girls but as we all know you can hide a lot with great lighting and camera angles)

    I will start:

Cardio 3 times a week 45mins (spin class)
    pilates twice a week
moderate weight training twice a week

I'm 30 and weight training is very very important. Also, I run 5 miles a day 5 days per week, although that much running is not necessary at all, it's just my personal preference. To get that tight look, however, you will have to ensure your diet is top notch, pretty much adhering to the type of eating fitness models employ. Diet is 80% of how you look, no matter how much you work out.

I also do Jillian Michaels 30 day shred, probably for the past two months now. It's AMAZING and only 20 min long. I take 1 Dren pill in the morning before I run, often combined with a N.O. product. Try NOexplode or White Flood. Just recently I signed up for myfitnesspal.com (Find on the android market) which tracks calories to the letter on your phone. It syncs to the online program as well so you can input your calories on your phone or on your computer browser. It factors in your exercise routine too. Very cool.

I'm also over 30 and currently dancing. I've competed in figure shows and have found that following a somewhat similar diet/exercise style to the one my coach used to give me for show prep, has totally helped for dancing. I agree with the above post that weight training (or some form of resistance training) is key for having a firm toned look. A clean diet is also more important once we're in our 30's (uuuugggggghhhh), if your diet is clean then cardio is actually the last priority.

I've also recently added in plyometric conditioning, which is great for getting/keeping a firm lifted ass with the added benefit of strengthening your joints (i.e. injury prevention). For plyo I recommend the "Insanity" dvd series BUT don't use the videos 6 days a week like it shows on the program that comes with them, as that is too much stress for dancers legs could put you at risk for a knee or ankle injury even if you're in excellent shape. I personally use the dvds 2-3 times a week.

Lastly, pilates or yoga a couple times a week is great for core conditioning, flexibility, and of course the mind/body relaxation too.

Hmm I haven't heard of this before; I will check it out. I feel like suddenly my skin is more roomly even though I'm thin. It's probably muscle loss though ughhh

I'm watching this thread as I will be 30 this year and have definitely noticed a change in my skin elasticity and my metabolism has slowed way down so the days of pigging out and staying skinny are gone lol.
I've been eating a more paleo diet and really sorta embracing the whole lifestyle (I even have my vibram five finger shoes lol)... I am really thinking of joining a CrossFit gym. I agree with you all- weight training is huge!
I do love Jillian Michael's DVD's, 30 day shred is great, Shred It with Weights (she uses a kettelbell, I bought her signature kettlebell) is great, and I've also tried her Yoga Meltdown though I didn't really like it as I'm used to using yoga to really get within myself mentally and it's kind of hard to do that with Jillian yelling "Who's your Daddy?!" LOL

But yeah, keep sharing tips ladies- I just had a baby and working on getting back to my fit self and hoping to get back into the biz after taking the last 4 years off!
