    Default camcorders?

Any girls here actually use a camcorder? I was thinking of getting one to make my quality and shows better. Plus doing clips. Does anyone know how to use a camcorder to broadcast your webcam stream off of? What software and things did you need? Also can you still cam split with a camcorder? Gah I sound like such a n00b.

Well...I am not a a girl but I can help you. What is your budget first of all. Unless you do eBay
you are going to spend about 129.00 for a camcorder with a remote.

You will need a DV Camcorder...those are the ones that take the little DV Tapes. Also
it will need to have a IEEE 1394 or better know as a Fire Wire port you will need that
port on your computer or laptop also.

And yes...you can split the feed from a DV Camcorder using the same software that
you use to split regular cams.

Well it depends...I mean being able to have an actual real zoom is a nice thing. I had a studio
and I changed all the webcams out for DV Camcorders. Plus each was able to be on a tripod.

It depends if you are going to be a close up model or work form a little distance. For instance
if you want the members to be able to see a full body shot of you but also be able to zoom in
and get up close and personal. That is something you can not do easy with a webcam as the
view is stationary unless you move it by hand.

Also the videos you can make using a webcam can not compare to what you will make using
a camcorder. When recording video from a webcam...you have to take into a lot of factors to
get a video that looks like it was not made on a webcam and you will have to do some
editing also. Webcam videos can tend to not be as smooth in recording and you can have
process in the background running that may make your video stutter or pause and you will
need to edit these out to make it a smoother video.

But in the end it really is all on you. If I was a model...I would go with the camcorder all the
way but I would still have a nice HD webcam. It never hurts to have more than one option
    available.

Hmm...I don't know of a tutorial but I will make a quick one for you here:

This is the image of the IEEE 1394 Port or Fire Wire Port. On older machines
you may see the 4 pin port. On the camcorder you also will see the 4 pin port:

If you have the same port on the computer and the webcam for instance the
4 pin port then you will need a cable like this:

If you have the 6 pin port on your machine then you will need this cable:

Once you have your camcorder plugged into the computer, it should install
the driver for it automatically. Make sure the camcorder is powered on for the
    install to take place.

Once the driver has been installed you can now run split cam or whatever
cam splitter software you use. You should now see a new option when you
go to select in your cameras list. It should say something like:

    DV Image Device
    DV Device
    DV Image
    DV Camcorder
    Something with DV in it

If the software does not install automatically then you may have to consult the
manufactures website to see if there is a driver to make the camcorder work
    with your computer.

I had a DV camcorder, the firewire, the software (http://www.orangeware.com/endusers/webcamdv.html), etc... Bought a firewire card for my desktop, the wire, paid the $20 for the software, and it worked smoothly for about a month. Then one day, it just stopped working.. Nothing wrong with the camera or the software...perhaps it was the firewire Either way, it was a big headache and I ended up switching back to my Logitech.

My new laptop doesn't even have a firewire port...all USB/USB2...so whatever you have to do to upgrade your system if you don't have the proper port, you need to be aware of the costs involved.

You can't just buy a camcorder and use a USB to make it work like you can with a webcam. Hopefully some company will fix that one day.
