    Default Zombaio with Blogger... warning...

    I just wanted to give a general warning to ladies who might be building a blog/website with Blogger. It's a great place to start out and play around for free with designing your site and putting features on and such, but if you plan on building a members area or even adding pay buttons via Zombaio, do NOT use blogger. I learned the hard way.

    I spent a great deal of time building up my site exactly how I wanted it, getting backlinks and promoting it. Then I decided it was time to add pay buttons to my content and thought that I'd soon want to build a members area. I got a Zombaio account and during the setup found that you need to have full access to your ftp files so that you can create a "members" directory, and you need to be able to install Zombaio's script and create a file called ".htaccess".

    This may sound confusing (it is) but I had no knowledge of any of this before starting out, and I learned it and finally got it right. But after countless hours of building my site *just* how I wanted it, I had to scrap the ENTIRE THING and start all over again just to get the price point together. Now I will be rebuilding it all from scratch. I just HAD to share this info because it was such a devastating realization and I'd hate for anyone else to go through what I went through.

    Please, please get your own hosting and take your time ladies, if you ever think you might want to add a members area or Zombaio pay buttons to your site!

    Good luck.

    Ha! That could be why WordPress dropped MY site....hmmmmm.....Yet, I haven't even begun to create a member's section. I signed up with Zombaio a few weeks ago, though, and am sending in all the paperwork and licenses....Very interesting. Good looking out! And, yes, I'm finding that 'free' blog sites (even with paid upgrades) really aren't affiliate-friendly nor third party app friendly unless it's a mega-site like Twitter, etc....*sigh*

    first of all, Blogger and Wordpress are NOT hosts - they are blogging platforms that you can use either for free (something.blogspot.com) or redirected from your own site (somethingsexy.com)

    hosts are companies that sell you space online, like buying a plot of land to build a house on. Most hosting companies allow adult content so long as nothing explicit is readily available; ie no live public free shows lol. I would recommend calling hosting companies and asking - most of the information online regarding hosts is incorrect - I read everywhere that my host is not adult friends, but then I called and spoke to them and found out that it just depends on what/where it is visible.

    So if you want to be with me
    With these things there’s no telling
    We just have to wait and see
    But I’d rather be working for a paycheck

    Besides maybe this time is different

    I think if a company tells you something different on the telephone than what is written on line in their TOS - you could face huge problems if ... the person you spoke to on the phone didn't give enough of a shit to check the TOS properly -, or you spoke to a shady customer service rep ... If it's written in their terms that they don't allow adult , and you break that term , they are within their rights to pull the plug .... irrelevant of what you've been told on the phone . Another problem is ,Some people taking out hosting with certain companies that don't allow adult - wouldn't be impressed to see adult sites on the same server - Yes it's none of their business, but some people are twats , and would jump at the chance to report someone breaking the rules....

    Not aimed at Dixie directly, You may have a good relationship with your hosting providers, but I don't think others should overlook what online TOS say - because 'I was told on the phone ' , won't hold up to much when shit hits the fan .

    @ukmissy

    oh goodness no I didn't mean phone vs. TOS - if you google "myhost adult content" there are all these reviews from random bloggers that say they don't allow adult content. However, it is nowhere to be found in their TOS, and when I called they said it was fine as long as it was not readily available.

    let me rephrase - look at several hosting companies in your price range and call to ask them if they allow adult content - googling to determine whether or not they allow it will not be correct or fruitful.

    So if you want to be with me

    Hi, dixie!
    Yes, you are right. Sites like blogger and wordpress are platforms, and their domain registrar companies are kind of like third party affiliates.....For hosting, a webmaster/mistress will be paying monthly or yearly hosting fees.

    I purchased my dot com from "WordPress" (Automattic) and when I began to use affiliate links they did not like, they were booted. I was not told which ones....so it could've been Zombaio...or it could have been an adult affiliate link, who knows....but I had not even begun to use pay buttons with Zombaio before I was unceremoniously booted off their site with no warning.

    So, the general rule, I'm supposing, would be to find a hosting service if you will be monetizing your blog in any way. My blog was not cancelled for adult content, as I had flagged it myself as "mature"....it was due to affiliate links that WordPress did not endorse. Therefore, here I sit, plugging away yet again and learning a new system with a new service.

    A thorn in the side, yet a blessing in disguise all the same.

    So, yeah....you're right, Dixie ...However, there are also sooo many variables with our work....and sometimes things really just ARE arbitrary...eh?

    Like, for example, I've had Alertpay for quite some time..nary a whistle in my direction. So I'm guessing that was not the straw that broke the camel's back!

    Just food for thought...and I appreciate your clarifying the distinction between hosting services and general blogging platforms...

    Cheers,
    london

    @london

    but I bet you're with alertpay using the email buttons to transfer money not their non-member credit card features, right? I spoke with a rep and they are once AGAIN revising their TOS - it appears that every few years they update their TOS so that they can accept more adult services and that clogs up the acceptance system......

    I'm still looking for the right service for my site.....I think CCBill and Zombaio are sooo fucking ugly!! I might just wait till Alertpay is accepting new adult sites again, at least then it would all be pretty and so well organized.......anyway if you ever need any help, PM me!!
