Default Making nail polish last longer?

I try to have nice painted nails when I go in to work, but even with a topcoat and basecoat they always chip so friggin fast!! I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I paint them myself, using OPI, China Glaze, or Orly polishes, and I use an Orly base coat & OPI top coat. Any tips???

I want to just say screw it and get gel nails, but I've never had them before, and they seem expensive. Do you think it's worth the extra $?

Polish doesn't last on my real nails. Not if I paint them, not if I pay good $$ to have them done.

Supposedly nail polished with shellac last longer, but I've never tried it. So for me, so far, the only way to have lasting color is to have gel/acrylics.

OMG, get Shellac! It is exactly like nail polish, EXACTLY, except it lasts two weeks! I have it on now, I love it! OPI makes a similar product called Axxium Gel.

You have to find a salon that does it.

Regular nail polish never lasts longer than a few days on me, but the OPI Axxium Gel is awesome!! Lasts 2 weeks or longer on my nails, it usually starts growing out before it even chips. There are a lot of salons now that have it so you shouldn't have much trouble finding it. It's a little more expensive than a normal mani but so worth it IMO because of the lasting power and how it doesn't damage your real nails.

That sounds awesome! I wish it was something I could do at home, though... I get really annoyed when I have to go to the salon for upkeep, lol...

But I think I'm gonna give it a try, I'm so tired of my nails chipping.

The same thing here. I model high heels, so my toenails are being photographed all the time - and I spend forever getting them right. I usually use Chanel, Orly or La Femme - with a base coat, two main coats....and a high gloss topcoat.

The trick is to allow enough time for each coat to dry right out before applying the next one - and I usually leave 24 hours before putting on the top coat. It seems to work....my nails last about 2 weeks.

Yeah... I reeeally hate waiting for the polish to dry!! That didn't even occur to me that it might be why they're chipping... thank for the tip
