    Default Fasted Cardio Facts!

Fasted cardio (doing cardio on an empty stomach) in hopes of optimizing fat as the fuel source, is a strategy that’s been around for decades. Only recently has enough data been compiled from various sources to really come to a conclusion on this topic. I cover the topic in this latest vid!

I've had a few trainers in the past suggest this and I can't do it. I get very lightheaded, dizzy, and disoriented. I've got to put something in my stomach before any kind of cardio, even if its just a yogurt or piece of fruit.

The trainers were wrong and your instincts correct.

Yep...Another Bro-Science theory challenged. Bodybuilding is very simple once you know your body & how food, exercise & rest work. To think that your body after fasting for hours will use just fat as fuel & not tap into muscle...lol

It uses a higher % as fuel sure, but the downsides outweigh any upsides, and it's really about total cals used at the end of the day. My vid Fat Burning Zone Myth Exposed gets into more detail on that.

A slightly different topic there, but a calorie "burned" is a calorie burned yes. Best to make sure it's not coming from your lean body mass (muscle) if possible and fasted cardio appears to do just that in addition to other drawbacks.

Personally, I don't feel all cals are created equal in terms of what one eats, but that's a whole other topic and the science continues to evolve there.

I've watched an interesting documentart recently - "Fat Head" - it's available on Netflix instant que.
It goes more into food and calorie science, rather than exercise.

If a person doesn't eat in the morning the body will go into starvation mode, and hang onto the fat, and dish out lean muscle mass for energy, rather than fat. It is smart to eat complex carbs for energy in the morning then work out. That way the body will burn the calories from food first, then turn to stored fat.

Aminos is what I would eat before cardio but that's just my personal opinion.

I agree that all calories aren't created equal... but in terms of burning them off, the bottom line is simply input vs. output. I think ppl tend to complicate it more than necessary...

    That they do.

I find such people usually start the conversation with "I have tried everything..." and it generally goes down hill from there. As I like to tell people, the human body is incredibly complex, but it's also a totally logical system.

"I have tried everything" = "I have never actually done a minute of research, but I have tried every fad diet a simple google search will tell you doesn't work." xDD

The amazing thing about the people who start with "I have tried everything," they say it as proof that going onto the next fad/scam/BS diet or product or what ever is justified. They say it with pride!

I usually ask "Have you tried sticking to one thing long enough for it to actually work?"

A guilty sheepish look is usually the response.
