if the government shuts down, IRS building would be closed? So that means...they would stop processing paper tax returns and refunds?

even though a government shutdown has already been averted by last friday's 'compromise' in Washington DC, it was specifically stated by the IRS that the April 15th deadline for filing tax returns would NOT be extended even if a government shutdown had taken place. However, a government shutdown would have delayed the processing of tax refund checks.
^^^ Yep. The "essential" activity of collecting taxes would have gone on. Sending out refunds was deemed non-essential and would have had to wait until the IRS reopened for business.

thats jus rediculous!!

Not so fast. E-filers who designated a bank account for and e-refund would have gotten their refunds. So it was just paper filers.
