Your camera phone geocaches your pictures, tagging your location where the photo was taken and it's easy to see where you are.

So, your home, or routine would be easy to see to people who can look.

I took off my backpage photos ASAP and will replace them with photos that won't (hopefully) have that information.

    so Beware!

There are so many ways that people with computer skills can track you, it's not even funny. Your best bet is to just accept that the right person, with the right amount of drive and knowhow can find out any damned thing about you that they want. It's just the reality of the world that we live in today. I saw a funny editorial one time about some stupid thief who robbed a computer hacker. The police, of course, proved completely useless. Thus, the hacker took justice into his own hands and completely destroyed the guys life.

Edit: Fortunately, criminals are idiots and don't even have enough computer skill to keep from getting viruses when they surf the internet. You're pretty safe. The few people out there who are both criminal and intelligent are going to focus on stealing from or harassing corporations and other bigger fish.

    that icanstalku site...

it says that they are raising awareness about information sharing.... but seeing as they are posting the address of people they were able to locate aren't they just feeding into the problem?

Yup. You can basically post a photo of your little toe on 4chan, and they'll have your FB hacked and torn open on their board with your home address and cell phone number in 5 minutes.
It's really not hard to track people AT ALL.

    So very true.
Really though, if a bunch of kids who are bored can track you down and fuck with you for FUN... imagine what a stalker can do?

Basically... just being on the internet is opening yourself up to the world.

It is in the .exif data in every digital picture. You regular digital camera of course doesn't have a GPS antenna or cell tower triangulation but, it does record a lot of info. Phone do, and tablets, and laptops.

Go into the camera settings and disable GPS tracking and the camera serial number.

Really? Because if it is on and in range of two cell towers that narrows to 1000 feet, three or more cell towers and it is within ten.

If it is used for calls or texts the origination point is fixed. The find out who all those that received calls have in common.

There is a small chance it went to an unscrupulous Apple tech and got a new SIM. Does Apple show a return on that serial number for a defective SIM?

That may be I have a dumb phone. I just want it to make calls and that is it.

Can't make calls in "Airplane mode" can you? If you have the make, model, and serial number you can ask you local PD to check the National Crime Information Computer (NCIC). If it has been recovered it could be sitting in an evidence room somewhere. Pawn Shops are supposed to register serial numbers with the Police in case something is stolen too.
