Default Accepting deposits for private parties...

When you must travel to do a private party and you require a deposit, how do accept the deposit in advance?
I used to accept credit cards but I don't anymore.

    Suggestions??

I always got the full amount once I showed up. I asked them to hand it to me in cash.

Credit cards or paypal is probably the best way to go. Especially if you are traveling more than an hour, with the price of fuel these days, getting some kind of guarantee is important.

We use credit card (our preferred method of payment) and direct deposit to our bank account. Clients are also made aware their booking is not "secure" until their deposit is received. In other words, we will accept bookings for their preferred performers if they come in before a client pays the deposit.

i'm thinking about starting my own private party company. i've read about paypal not allowing any adult transactions, and that if they find out you are doing that, they will cancel your account and any money you have in that account will be kept by paypal and you will never get it back.

how do you make sure that they don't complain to paypal wanting their money back for their "bachelor party" or something?

when i claim it on my taxes, or when i process any transaction, i am going to label it as "party planning" or "event planning". since we would basically be planning bachelor parties, birthday parties, etc.

how can you accept credit card payments without paypal and without losing out on your money?

i was set up with a merchant acct with wells fargo. i made it that no refunds were allowed so i didn't have to worry about chargebacks.

how did you set that up? and how much does it cost to set one up?

i just want to make it easy for customers to make deposits, and definitely NO CHARGEBACKS if they cancel the party/want their money back.

Charge back and refunds are two different things entirely.

a charge back is a dispute a customer files. If you are accepting Visa and Mastercard they have the ability to charge back any transaction. It is the perk of using a credit card as a customer.

    a refund is a refund.

With my business acct at Wells, you have the option to offer chargebacks. I opted out of that in my merchant account.

You need a shell corporation to qualify for most merchant services. Adult merchant services are Hella expensive, and not worth it. So if you start a business entity, include an eBay store or something like that to have a non adult business as a front. However, you do need to have some transactions with non adult activity to stay legit. I have an eBay listing every week or so, just to appear legit.

i'm thinking about signing up with google checkout or paypal.

what i'm going to send them in email invoices when they book a party will be "non refundable booking fee"...

when i claim taxes i'm going to plan it as party planning or modeling. not sure which just yet.

Another way you can get a secure deposit is a money order. A money order is better than a check beacuse the funds are guaranteed to be there. You cannot charge back or cancel a money order, and it cannot be returned by the bank for insufficient funds.
