    Default Body After Baby

Alright, so I will be 38 weeks pregnant on Monday and I weigh 173 lbs. I started out at 140 lbs. How in the world will I get back down to 140 lbs within 2 months? Obviously, I need to give my body time to rest but holy cow - I am severely concerned about going back to work even 5 lbs over my original weight! I am going to start walking tomorrow.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I will eventually do P90X but that is too strenuous for 2 to 8 weeks post-partum. arg...

I've never been pregnant, so I don't know how much salt you want to put in my advice; but from what I've heard, simply having the baby and breast feeding will take 10lbs off the top pretty fast.

I guess just low impact stuff like walking and yoga when you're up to it; probably suppression garments to help you shrink your uterus back down?

I'm not that prepared to answer your question better, I'm sorry! But Congrats on your soon-to-be bundle of joy! 38 weeks - not long now!

I had mine when I was 20...I worked out right up til 3 days before I had my baby. I went from 145 to a bit over 200 (my dr was so annoyed with me cause in the last couple months alone I gained nearly 15lbs!) At around 2 weeks I started going for walks pushing her in her stroller. By the time my 2mth maternity leave was up I was already powerwalking about an hour or so a day, and I returned to work at about 140...less than what I was when I got pregnant, and it was at 2 months that I really started working out hardcore again, by the time my baby was 6mths I was in better shape than I was before I had her.

Definitely I think its a good idea to exercise while pregnant...not only does it help get back into shape easier, but I think keeping my muscles did a world of good to making delivery a breeze.

The downside to all of it is that now, many years later, and not nearly in the shape I used to be then...my kid can gleefully say I cant blame it on her cause she made my body better. She happened to overhear me say that almost 10 years ago while giving advice to a friend about working out pregnant and even now that shes a teenager she hasnt forgotten me saying that argh! lol

Let your body take it's time. It's frusterating, the weight just just doesn't move as fast as you would like. Everyone told me breastfeeding would help, and it did a bit but I had a few problems in the beginning and it was far from the drastic drop I had hoped for. 3 years later I look 20x better than I did pre baby, but for me personally it took time. If I would have stressed about it, I would have been totally depressed. As hard as it is, don't use anyone else as a guideline for how soon you are supposed to drop weight. Womens bodies are so unique. Do the right things and Im sure you will get into fighting shape soon but comparing yourself to others is a recipie for disaster. Accept
the fact that u may have to dance slightly over your target weight. No biggie.

Yes the thing that I have noticed is everyone is SO DIFFERENT. One of my friends did absolutely no exercise but lost all her weight in three weeks, whereas another one of my friends exercised like crazy and took 6 months to get to normal. Here's hoping you have good genes!

I took a loooong time to get back to normal BUT I do look better now than I did before so it was worth the perserverance!

I will say that if you are not getting enough sleep then it's very hard to get the energy to exercise and also for your body to repair and recover so don't be too hard on yourself in the beginning. It took 6 months for my bubs to start sleeping through the night and that was when the weight started coming off for me.
