    Default Affliliate Marketing for Dummies?

Ok so I know that there are several threads about this, and I have read the guide and explanations that Camwhore and Bambalina have graciously provided us with in the past, but I'm still confused as to how this works

How will the websites know if you "brought" a guy to the network or not, and how do you know they are paying you what they owe you? Is it tedious to set up and manage? Do you have to have your own website in order to take part in affiliate programs? What are some simple, "failproof" affiliate programs for beginners?

In the lingo of affiliate marketing, the "sponsor" is the company who owns the website you are sending your traffic. They provide you with specially coded URLs or links that contain your affiliate ID or code. Theoretically, the sponsor's tracking software reads your affiliate ID and credits your affiliate account with a visit or "hit".

Most sponsor programs have an affiliate portal or page which you can log into and review your stats. You can see how many visitors you've sent to the sponsor, and in some cases, more detailed information about that visitor; such as: where they clicked your link, what and how many pages they visited on the sponsor's site, and if they're a "unique" visitor or a returning one. Sponsors report stats in different ways... some are very detailed, and some just give you a hit count.

Now, if you're talking about primarily cams-type sponsors... you can only trust that they're being honest with you, and not "shaving" (dishonestly NOT giving you credit for hits and sales). In terms of adult marketing as a whole, there are exceptions... for instance, if a sponsor uses CCBill as a payment sponsor, it's generally assumed that CCBIll's payment protocol prevents shaving from occuring. Also, there's a software tracking service called NATS which many adult sponsors use. For lack of a better way of explaining what NATS does and its benefits, it also is generally believed to have safeguards to prevent shaving. So, any sponsor that uses either of these services is usually trusted and regarded as honest.

However, all of the info in the previous paragraph isn't helpful when it comes to cams... because the very vast majority of cam networks don't use either CCBill or NATS. I only know of one who uses CCBill... and I wouldn't call them a major player.

You do not need to have a website of your own to do affiliate marketing, but it certainly helps. Technically, anywhere you can post your affiliate links... e-mails, forums, link exchanges, free classifieds, etc., can offer a way to do affiliate marketing without operating a website.

Back to the "trust" issue, I can recommend a couple of good cam sponsors who I have personal experience with and trust as a result of relationships that have lasted several years... if you do shows on Streamate.com... they're great sponsors... very honest and very reliable with paychecks.
Another would be XoticDolls.com... they even send you e-mails when you make sales through your affiliate links.

If there's anything else you need to know, or if I've created more questions than answers offered, just ask.

I just re-read your post and realized I missed a few points in regard to questions asked. "Is it tedious to set-up and manage...?" You can make it real simple, or you can get very advanced to the point... if you have a website(s)... that you are practically developing a clone of your sponsor's website. Basically, your mission as an affiliate marketer is to get your affiliate URL links in front of as many people as you can as creatively as you can... the more you can induce people or surfers to click on your links the more sales you'll make.

I don't think there's any such thing as a "foolproof" affiliate program. Anything associated with adult entertainment on the Net is ultra-competitive. Surfers have more choices than they can consume. Lots of people are promoting adult programs, and it can be very difficult to rise above the crowd. Generally speaking, you need to send a lot of people to a sponsor's website before one will pull the trigger and make a purchase.

For example, I just started promoting an established, but revamped cam program that's looking a lot like MFC... only on a better technical platform IMO. In this pay period, I've sent them 785+ hits or visitors and I have not yet made a sale. So, my conversion ratio at this point is 0:785.

I would stick with what you know. Let's say you're a camgirl on Streamate. Now, off-hand, I don't know if Streamate permits camgirls to also be affiliates... (some camsites don't allow this) but if they do... I would be sending as many surfers to my Streamate chatroom using my Streamate affiliate URL links as I could. You get two commissions for every sale... and if you do "Revshare".... and you get that guy as a regular, repeat customer, you're going to continue to get that double dip commission.

With the term, Revshare, I just touched on a point worth extending. Most cam programs offer affiliates at least 2 ways to earn money... RevShare and PPS. RevShare is revenue sharing. If your RevShare is 25%... then you will get 25% of every dollar your customers spend whether it's their first time or their 100th time buying a show. PPS is Payment Per Signup.
With PPS, you might make a flat fee of $40, $60 or $100 when the customer makes a paid signup. That PPS payout can initially be considerably more than the 25% RevShare commission, but your income on any customers that you get on PPS ends with that payment. Whereas, RevShare can provide income from a customer for as long as he is a customer.

My conversions are 1/57 currently. I use the sites that models bank on.
I use the PPSS ( Pay-per- sign up)

    So I make $1 , $40 and $60 respectively.

That's an excellent conversion ratio. I assume you are promoting Streamate... in the world of affiliate marketing it has a good reputation of being fairly easy to convert with amounts of traffic that are less than massive. I do better with Streamate than any other cam network, and unless they change in some negative way, I'll always promote them.

The websites track whether you generated a lead or sale through the unique link they generate for you to place either on your website, chat, etc... That link when clicked puts a small file (cookie) on the user's computer which tracks when they buy or do whatever action the site is looking for.

I would like to say it has its ups and downs on the conversions ....

but if you use the right programs/sites it will work!

I learned to read my traffic, to see if they where paying customers or not.

If my sign ups are from twitter, then I offer twitter the pay per sign up link... it never fails.

But if im promoting in an area where I KNOW customers spend, then I give them the percentage link.

You really have to be analytical....LOL
