Default She woke up in the middle of surgery!!!

I ran into a girl I know last night (who has implants) who I haven't seen since she moved away. We got to talking about boobs, I told her I'm getting mine done soon and it turns out she went to the same doctor as me. She had all good things to say BUT the conversation really took a turn when she said:

"And you'll wake up during surgery, but don't worry, it's no big deal"

    WHAT?!?! Are you F-ing serious?

I asked her if she had twilight or general and she said general. I was rrally taken back by this. From what I have read waking up during general is extremely rare?!?! But she talked about it like oh, its ok, its GOING to happen, don't freak out.

    WTF!?

Yeah, that is some scary shit. I'm really hoping it was like when I had my C-section. You're awake but you don't feel anything or see them operating on you.

You should not wake up!!! Not unless its a twilight. Accidentally waking up in the middle of surgery is cause for a lawsuit. That is way fucked up.

Did he just tell her, no biggie, so she wouldn't sue?

That's normally a fuck up with the hypnotic when they use 3 part anesthesia- shouldn't ever happen. Take the time to meet your anesthesiologist and have them address all your concerns. If you're going to the same doctor as this girl, CALL HIM and discuss this with him as well! Don't wait til surgery day.

Ohh this makes me think of that move "AWAKE". Hopefully they aren't cutting when this happens. I would so wake up and bash someone in the face several times over and say... "Does that hurt"? SMH.

I'm not sure. She said she remembers everything and even asked them "am I supposed to be awake right now?" and they told her to just relax and then the next thing she remembers is waking up.

I dug a little deeper and found out that she did not have surgery with the doctor I am going to, but his associate.

This partucular doctor hasn't had very good reviews and I am pretty sure that this had to be a fuck up on their part, it really sounds to me like they incorrectly dosed her. They also do not use twilight for BA's, so yeah, it was general......which was royally screwed up.

I know for a fact that my doc uses a board-certified anesthesiologist. I'm not sure about the associate.....

regardless, I am going to bring this up anyway at pre-op.

I'll be the weirdo here. It happened to me. It was strange, but I didn't freak out or anything. It wasn't traumatizing. I opened my eyes and kind of looked around. My doctor noticed, he was obviously a little surprised, but he talked to me in a soothing voice and just said "close your eyes. go back to sleep" and I smiled and passed back out.

I'm pretty sure it was twilight though. I have a pretty high tolerance to pain meds and anesthesia. I remember being somewhat conscious through general anesthesia when I had my wisdom teeth removed. I wasn't "awake" and talking but I swear I knew what was going on and could still hear stuff.

Some people's bodies just react differently. If you've never had a weird reaction before, you will be fine. And honestly, it wasn't bad or scary, I was aware of what was going on, but I was still pretty doped up and just smiled and went back to sleep.

^Same here, I woke up during my wisdom teeth removal. I'm fairly sure I had general, it was an IV and I wasn't allowed to eat or drink 12 hours prior...Anyways, you're going to be topically frozen as well right? I would think so. I remember when I woke up, I opened my eyes, looked around, and could kind of feel them "digging" in my jaw. I couldn't feel pain, but I could feel that they were doing something. The doctor did notice as well, and got the nurse/anesthiologist whoever to give me some more anesthetic and I fell back asleep. Don't be afraid, I think it just happens sometimes because they'd rather give you a little less of the anesthetic than too much, that shit can be dangerous! I would rather that than worry someone is going to give me too much and kill me.

Honestly, I think it happens more than doctors would like to admit, but having said that, it's still very, very unlikely that it's going to happen to you.

This girl scared you for no reason. Don't freak out. I've had 4 surgeries and have never woken up or remembered a thing from the moment the iv started pumping to recovery.
