    Default Shaking after cardio?

I'm getting back into a daily cardio routine, and I'm experiencing intense shakiness after my workouts (about 1 hour interval training). I can hardly stand it. Is this normal? I eat enough, I drink lots of water, I'm not too out of shape. I've tired 'spiking my bloodsugar' like my old trainer recommended (he said a small piece of dark chocolate, a tsp of Nutella on toast, or a glass of chocolate milk after a workout would do); but that doesn't seem to be working much.

What can I do? I hate this shaky, jittery feeling.

    Thanks in advance!

what are you eating before it?
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

you need to eat something before you workout. When I'm doing extended, intense training, I will do a spike before or during (I'm a big fan of gu). You should be eating something with a good balance of carbs and protein afterwards - but I'm not sure how a spike after a workout would be beneficial? But I'm an endurance girl, so my training style may be completely different.

Also, are you taking any type of caffeine or fat burner beforehand? Are you training to drop fat? Are you lifting weights before or after your cardio?

^i agree with this. i dont agree that eating refined sugar after cardio is good for you. also how long are you working out for? if you are going to eat a significant meal before working out, try to eat complex carbs.... they will take longer for your body to digest and keep your blood sugar more stable. the shaking is probably do to a spike or dip in blood sugar... not sure why your train

you also might be pushing your muscle to the limits. make sure you get enough protein to rebuild them

and if you lift you want to lift before you do cardio while there is still a glycogen supply in your muscles.

anyway im no professional. hopefully will or angelking or someone else super savvy in how the body works will see this and answer.

Stretching helps. Stretch through the shakes for a solid 20-30sec/stretch and I agree about the food.
Protein will fix your muscles after a workout preparing them for next time to help reduce the shakes and carbs will help with energy. (both before and after)

Also I drink the gatoraid 3 thing (i forget what its called) thats for AFTER your workout. It has what you need and you drink it within 30min of finishing your routine/while your streching.

Can you please post what time of day you are doing your cardio, intensity and forms of cardio, how long you've been out of the gym for, and your pre, peri, and post workout diet?

idk if you were asking me or the OP but heres mine:
I usually do go to the gym around 3 because thats when my roomie can go and if I want to do weights I go late at night (around 10-11pm) because I hate lifting infront of people! lol

I run 5k's everyother weekend or so so I mostly run/jog/walk on the treadmill, switching up running for time one day (like how far I can go in an hour even if i need to walk parts doesnt matter I just go for at least an hour) and then other days ill see how fast I can do a 5k (3.1mi)
every 3-4 days I do the eleptical instead of run. I also do the rowing maching almost every time I go usually only for about 15-20 min but its realy low impact and easy and its one of the best workouts for your upper back/shoulders.
If I dont feel up to running or even the eleptical I'll get on the stationary bike (the kind you sit at with the backrest lol) and play angry birds on my phone and try and jst zone out and get through 30min so at least im doing something easy to get my heart rate up.
As for your stomach/obliques/full body I do a lot of different things on the bosu ball (youtube bosu ball evercises and theres tons) That will realy tighten everything up.
I always reccomend yoga/pilates classes a couple times a week if you go to a gym that offors these for free. (or any classes really to give you ideas of things to do so you dont get stuck in a rut)
and always always always stretch. It helps with the shakes and relaxing plus is great for your muscles to prevent injury blah blah lol

as for diet im not the best person to ask since I'm in college and don't have the time usually to cook healthy and dont want to spend the money but what i try and do is

some sort of carbs and fruit for breakfast (bagel and banana) and protein so 2 hardboiled eggs (you should be getting around 50g of protein a day with dancing/exercising but to much will not be stored as energy to repair muscles but will turn into fat so I wouldnt go over 75g/day but I've found its hard to do that w.o protein shakes anyway..)

lunch will have protein and fruit or vegies (chicken sandwitch/pb&j/egg and turkey sandwitch..)

snack will be a protein bar (when picking out a protein bar try and get one with around 15-20g of protein and watch the calories! some have up to 500cal..)(and make sure its a PROTEIN bar not a meal replacement bar)

dinner is usually chicken stirfry or a frozen bag of stirfry stuff with a good sauce. There cheap, made in 10min and really good ("voila" alfredo chicken is my fav. a good 2 meals fo $4)

and "edys" brand ice cream has these shakes and smothies you can but for about a buck where you just add 1/3 cup milk and its an awesome smothie/shake
    http://3kidsandus.com/2011/edys-slow...-100-giveaway/

Also another great way to get your fruit/veges is v8 juice. They have pretty damn good fruit juices that have veges in it but dont taste like shit like there blueberry/aci (spelling?) berry one..

I hope that helps. Like I said before I'm majoring in exercise science, working as a group fitness instructor and working on becoming a persional trainer so I love helping people with this stuff.. If you need anything else or other ideas let me know I'd love to help!

Hey, thanks for asking! I was kinda hoping you or Will would respond.

    Anyway:

Time of day: Usually before dinner, late-afternoon early-evening. I would like to work out eariler, but I can't deal with shaking/tembling all day.

Intensity/Form: Just the basic interval training button on my treadmill. I go for an hour, it ends up being a distance of about 5 miles. I usually warm up for about 5 minutes, stretch, then get more intense.

Gym: Been out of the gym since about January. Combination of sickness and depression. Actually, the other way around. Sickness caused depression. I feel a lot better now though! 'Cept for the shakes.

Diet: Um, pretty plain. Kashi cereal in the mornings with milk (soy). Lunch is usually tinned tuna, with a spinach salad (with tomato, onion, peppers, etc) and some crackers. Mid morning/afternoon snacks: yogurt, apples, peice of cheese, boiled egg whites or another small can of tuna . It doesn't sound like much, but I am eating enough, I feel full during the day, and aim for about 1500 calories. What to eat after my workout is always a toughy. I'm trying to do like my old trainer said and eat something sweet, but it's kinda disheartening to eat chocolate right after I spent the last hour sweating and working out hard. Dinner is along the same vein as lunch - most often some steamed veggies and 4-5 ounces of chicken or fish - maybe some rice or baked potato if I really want it. I tend to like a lot of repetition in my diet, so I'm unsure if this is where I'm going wrong?

I always try to eat 20 minutes or so before I exercise. I take a Multi-vitamin. Get lots of sleep.

I hope it's not something stupidly obvious that I'm doing wrong.

Edit: Wanted to add recently found a super - fun mold problem all over my apartment, so any health issues I'm having might be attributed to that. Not sure. Pretty pissed about the mold though, as that's whats likely caused my prolonged colds/ear-infections/coughs all winter.

Hm repetition is not good in your diet, its good to have a varied diet from day to day, if possible.
Also look into food combination and learn a bit about it. Your stomach might be sensitive to certain combinations.Suppose we eat a protein such as meat (chicken, fish wtv)with a starch such as potato. The body must provide acid digestive juices to digest the meat and alkaline digestive juices to digest the potato thereby neutralizing each other's digestive juices. This results in neither food getting properly digested. On the contrary most of the protein, being in the stomach for so long putrefies and most of the carbohydrate ferments. Foods that have been putrefied or fermented generate toxic acids in the body. The putrefaction and fermentation is experienced as gas, flatulence, heartburn and acid indigestion. perhaps some shaking. not sure. worth looking into, if not for general health purposes

Hey it doesn't sound like you're doing anything drastically wrong, and most likely if you're getting the shakes post workout it's due to your body re-acclimatizing itself to exercise, or to low blood sugar or low potassium levels. I wouldn't worry too much.

Looking at your diet, it seems like your carbs are quite low, which means you're starting your workout probably glycogen depleted already. Try sipping on a Gatorade during your workout; just space a bottle out over the duration of your cardio, or have one right after. Alternatively you could substitute a bottle of sweetened coconut water, which would also support your muscle glycogen and electrolyte levels.
