me and hubby are thinking of going on a cruise to the carribean or bahamas for our five year wedding anniversary, instead of going to disney world like originally planned. we're pretty excited about the idea but have never been on a cruise before. wanna hear all of your guyss experiences please

I've been on two cruises to the Bahamas. They are a good value as far as vacation options go. I think people who get seasick on a cruise ship do it to themselves mentally through worrying about getting seasick, because cruise ships are so big you don't really feel movement. I remember waking up the first morning on a cruise ship with a vague sense that something was "different." We had arrived at port during the night and were no longer moving, but it was that vague a feeling.

It's much better to go as a couple than when single.

It is much more relaxing to me, than say, a vacation like Las Vegas. I leave LV feeling exhausted, but following a cruise I'm pretty relaxed.

The Bahamas were nice, but the sun felt as if it were two inches from my neck. I got burned, badly. The entry into The Bahamas was a little off putting to me. I was expecting "tropical paradise" but instead found "militarized border." Ok, it wasn't quite that bad, but remember that a port is a border crossing and there is barbed wire fencing and security. Once you're inside you get to the "tropical paradise" parts.

The only bad part of cruise ships so far for me has been the people. For people relaxing on vacation a lot of them are pretty damned hostile and rude. I'd recommend a more upscale cruise line just to encounter a higher class of people.

I've been on three cruises. Two were Disney, one was Norwegian. Disney was consistently excellent. The staterooms are huge, the bathrooms have real tubs in them, the food is out of this world, the service is above and beyond the norm, the entertainment is actually worth seeing, the spa is really nice, and there are so many good kid activities that the kids are usually fairly scarce. That was my original thought about Disney before I went on my first cruise, because I hate kids, and I really didn't want to be around them a lot. But they aren't around nearly as much as on other cruises, where the kid activities suck, so they roam the ship looking for other shit to do. Disney really goes out of their way, because they have such a reputation to uphold.

Norwegian was one of the worst experiences I've ever had in my life. The room was tiny and dirty, there were cigarette burns on the blankets, mattress, and comforter, the phone was broken, the entire sunbathing deck was constantly covered in soot, the food was atrocious and served in extremely small quantities (seriously, you would have thought it was a serious weight-loss cruise, the portions were so small), the service was awful (not to mention how rude they all were), the excursions sucked, and the "freestyle cruising" was a freaking joke. Normally, you are given set times for dinner in the main restaurants: you have a 5:30 seating, or an 8:00 seating, etc., and you keep that seating the entire cruise. But Norwegian's "freestyle" concept says you shouldn't have to keep to a schedule on vacation. Well, their alternative was to have you go check in at the hostess stand for the respective restaurant, and then they'd give you a pager, and you'd have a 45 minute wait. So, every night was like going out to a chain restaurant on a Friday or Saturday night at about 7 p.m. And what's worse, all of the main restaurants served the exact same menu. So it didn't matter which of the three restaurants you went to, the food was the same. That's bullshit. Tipping was mandatory--everything you ordered with your room key had a non-optional gratuity of 18% added, and it couldn't be removed. So much for the "freestyle" stance of no tipping allowed. Departing at the ports of call was allowed in stages, and we were consistently one of the last decks allowed off the ship. Thus, we only got a couple of hours at each of these places, as opposed to Disney, where you can walk off the ship whenever you want. The gym and spa were right next to this late-night "disco," so you'd have drunk men wandering around the gym and spa areas, trying to hit on you or cop a feel (seriously) while you were working out or trying to relax. And when you reported it, they wouldn't do anything. And worst of all, at about day three of this week-long cruise, I got fed up and went to talk to a manager of customer relations. He half-assed apologized and said he'd set up a meal for us at the adults-only restaurant, which normally charges a fee to eat there. Then when we went to eat there, we discovered that he'd only SET the fucking reservation, and had not comped it for us. Ohhh, I was so pissed. It was the WORST vacation I'd ever had.

So, this should show you. Do NOT go cheap when you're doing a cruise. Seriously research the cruise line and ship before you book it. Really pay attention to their star ratings. Disney was phenomenal, but Norwegian was terrible, and there's nothing worse than being stuck on a shitty boat with shitty food and shitty service for a week.

For discounts on booking, I recommend vacationstogo.com. They have excellent deals.

Never been on a cruise, but.......Let me put in a vote for your Disney World plan....

Me and the wife took the kids, and both of us thought how much fun it would be with just the 2 of us....I could spend a couple of days at just the beers around the world thing at epcot..(i dont know what its called). I was surprised at how much adult targeted stuff there was there.

I second the Disney Cruise...!!! I went several years ago, it was just me and kiddo and we still rave about it, it was so amazing and fun!!!

I was practically on my own because they have the kids club, so she wanted to spend pretty much all of her time with the other kids and they had cool activities planned all day that she didnt want to miss out on, but even though I was all by my lonesome for the most part I had a total blast, everyone was so cool and fun and I met a lot of people.

I was on a message board leading up to and after the cruise, and I told a story about how I was participated in one of the contests at the club one night...where they had 3 guys blindfolded and three of us girls competing by dancing...well practically chair dancing these guys lol!! And they had to figure out which girl gave them the dance. We were all winners of course...but when I posted about it in the forum, one of the women excitedly told me her husband was one of the guys and she took pictures of me dancing for him....! She was going to send me the pictures but never did..awe!!

Anyway, total complete blast, everything was so perfect that I cannnot say a single bad thing, from the accomodations to the food to the entertainment...fun fun fun! go go go go!!!!

+1 more for Disney. My only cruise, but it was fun!!!!! All the positives above. The only neggie and the only reason I don't really plan on going again is they aren't clothing optional. But, that's just me.

I went on two Caribbean cruises, one on Royal Caribbean and one on Carnival. I thought the Royal Caribbean ship was nicer, but I enjoyed them both.

I haven't personally gone on Carnival, but I've heard pretty bad things. Like I said, you generally get what you pay for, and the cheap cruises attract a certain clientele. I've heard Carnival generally attracts a lot of trashy families and young party kids who want to spend the entire cruise getting wasted and making asses of themselves at 3 in the morning. I had this problem on Norwegian, too; because it was a ship that departing out of Charleston, SC, instead of the bigger ports you have to really travel to, there were a lot of white trash on there. Seriously, I haven't seen that much white trash since I moved out of rural Arkansas. They were rude and loud and ignorant...NOT the kind of people you want to spend your vacation around. A girl I met on the ship told me she'd been on Carnival, and the clientele there was exactly the same.

    Royal Caribbean : mexico, caymans
    Royal Caribbean: mexico

The ships are really modern and full of amenities. Room service was free. It was a ton of fun. The food is wonderful and you have so many dining options you can never be hungry. Liquor is definitely a selling point on these cruises so be prepared for lots of tipsy people at night. Hell, after the 1st full day at sea with no stops look for the afternoon stumblers young and old. Sometimes they get sick. The one thing I hated was the children. People who don't hold their children's hand or supervise them until they get in trouble or reported. There was a freaky little boy on my cruise who kept going underwater while in a small jacuzzi with several adults trying to touch women's legs. Preteens running around the ship all hours of the night if you are in the open air areas like lounges making out/feeling up while their parents are drunk or at the casino at 4am. Security gets tired of chasing them because there are so many and they run. That was my number one drawback because it happened on both. And spend the extra money for a balcony. It is not the same even it you have the large porthole windows that open.

Yay congrats You'll have lots of fun. I had 2 day cruise when I was younger going over to Egypt. I was 6 so I dont remember much. But everyone was friendly and nice. Good food etc.. It depends with what company you are going with as well.

Im going on a cruise in Italy for a week. I would recommend reading the reviews and see whether tipping is req. or already included in the package, how their dining system works, what is free and what is not. The cruise Im going on, we included the tipping into our package, but after buying it, I have read tipping still should still be added onto that for better service. I also noticed after X amount of drinks they will start chraging me etc. Check the reviews and see what others say so you will be prepapered. Im sure it will great, the weather is awesome, and the staff is usually trained and professional. Their entertainment is always great!!

Ive been on carnival and holland america and had good experiences from both.

Carnival was bigger and it was more laid back, kind of a partish type atmosphere

Holland america was smaller, but had a more upscale atmosphere

On both I felt nauseous the first night, took some dramamine, and laid out on the deck. the worst thing you can do is stay in your cabin in your seasick.you need to get fresh air.

I loved my experiences on both and felt that cruises are an easier way to vacation because they set up everthing for you-excursions, dining, etc. you just pick which one you want to do. i cried when i left my last cruise because i didnt want it to end

I had the same experience with Carnival. I wouldn't suggest them.

I've been on a Norwedgian cruse, 7 days 6 nights, from New York to Nassau, Bahamas, with a stop at Cape Canaveral in between. It was pretty awesome. Food was great, so much fun!

A Disney Cruise sounds so cute and romantic for a Wedding Anniversary. Go for it! Just remember to bring your own Gravol!

i vote royal caribbean, i went for a week and it was amazing. do the western cruise though because i went eastern and it was ROCKY. people were vomitting all over the place despite how large the boat was and how well it really absorbed a lot of the movement. other than that it was AWESOME.

WOW! That would have freaked my out if I was on the top deck. Imagine if you were having sex when you hit seas like that though. It would either be super cool or pretty painful LOL.

I went on cruise with Norwegian. I didn't have any problems while on there. Went to the Bahamas. The only part I don't like about cruises is you really aren't going to get to experience but so much if you have to be back on the boat at a certain time. It would be nice to have a day where the boat is at port the whole day and night so that you can stay out late at night and hit up the bars/clubs.

But overall I loved it. It was my first cruise which was to the Bahamas. 3 day cruise. Did 3 different islands, one which was there private island.
