Lightbulb Selling Clothing: Ebay vs Craigslist vs ???

I have a lot.... I mean a LOT of clothing to sell.

I gotta get rid of it because it is taking up the majority of my closet. However, I have no idea how to do this!

Honestly if I had a garage sale, I doubt much of it would sell. Stripper clothing, glitter boots, platform shoes, goth corsets, nom-de-plume gowns, packs of striped stockings.... are not things that most folks need!

Since most of the stuff isn't name brand (louis vuitton, chanel, gucci, whatever) consignment stores want nothing to do with me. Plus they want 50% of the profit, and that kinda makes me sad.

I have been considering selling this stuff on eBay... but I know they charge fairly high fees as well. Plus I don't know if I can learn how to sell my items effectively on eBay. Apparently there are dozens of eBay strategy books and I haven't the patience to read all of them. I'd hate to post all this stuff and then have none of it sell because I didn't use the right background color or something.

Craigslist is the most approachable option for me. I never sold anything on craigslist but I did manage to snag some nice furniture items from other sellers on there. So it's not as fancy as eBay.... but at least I'm a little familiar with the format.

My worry regarding craigslist is that I have no knowledge of the worth of any of my items. What if I list a pair of boots for $20 but somehow they are super desirable and obscure and a listing on eBay auctions would have gotten me $100. I would be devastated!

So many variables! So many convoluted scenarios! I need advice!

EBay hands down. It's an easier Site to use, you're likely to get better prices for the clothes you do sell, as it's an Auction, not just a sale....and - they have a World-wide customer base, so you can sell to buyers outside the US territories as well.

They also have better safeguards for users of the site.

I'd say either here or ebay. About ebay though if you are willing to start the auctions at .99 then they will all be free to you and you only have to give paypal their fee if you take paypal. If you want them to start at a fixed price then it will cost you more unless you do it the way DesuvsDeath said. I just pulled up a link and it is now free to list up to 50 items a month and you can add buy it now or start at any price. They want their 9% if it sells. Here's the link:http://announcements.ebay.com/2011/0...-are-now-live/
Thank Goodness I smartened up! The old me is dead and gone.

    Thanks ya'll! I luv advice.

Another thing I have been considering is the fact that listing on craigslist saves $ in terms of shipping costs. I imagine shipping anything weighty like shoes, or a bunch of clothing (assuming someone buys oodles! let's hope!), will eat up a great deal of money.

Then again, craigslist could eat up tons of my time--- interacting with wierdos, having people be no-shows, etc.

    Ugh. This is so tricky.

List it on here first. Then Ebay if it doesn't sell. You could also think about selling to some pervs on ebanned or a site like that. Used shoes sell well.

You could try listing it all up on craigslist as a bundle instead of just individual items or a few bundles. This way you will be able to get rid of a lot more stuff that way. I would recommend using good keywords in your title when you post on craigslist and ebay. Think like the buyer and put all the keywords you can fit like stripper clothes, dancer outfits, dancer boots, stripper boots, etc. I definitely would also try putting them up on here or similar forums. Also, the pictures are important when trying to sell online. It does take some work and time to sell your own clothing online. Good luck with it, I'll see if I can find anyone interested as well.
