    Default Ombre/Balayge for the Summer?

I have always had dark dark brown hair, almost black..... I am thinking of doing something different this summer like Ombre or Balayge.... but this would be a huge jump for me, since I've never even high lighted my hair! Right now, I get a tint, Redken Level 3 Neutral violet base dark brown almost black color, and that lasts at least a month. My natural color is a dark brown/auburn. I really love the violet base that I've been getting, more so than what I used to get (golden brown) and don't want to change too much from that color family.....

So should I go for an Ombre or Balayge look? If I go for an Ombre, I want it to be more subtle and natural, fading out to a lighter brown/red color, NOT bleach blonde! If I keep my roots the dark violet brown, what should I fade it out to? Or if I go more for a Balayge, what color highlight should I do? I really like the sunkissed almost brassy look!

I've never been a fan of these, they look washed out and like looong overgrown roots. I don't think you should go reddish or goldish or light-med brown either. I dunno I just think what you have now is really good, it's very striking and flattering.

Reminds me of Kim Kardashian and her obsession with lighter hair. Remember when she went caramel blonde? It didn't work obviously, but she's still always sneaking in deep brown highlights or lighter streaks and to me she should just stop and stick with the solid black because it is sooooo flattering!

^ I second this, I have very dark hair naturally and always end up going back to it in the end. It just gets so boring! I'm itching for some highlights too..

My favorite pics are the first one of Jessica Biel and the last one of Kim K

i also dislike the 'ombre'. i dont think it is flattering at all... but im not fashionista.

i think that highlights could look good on you... but maybe i am old fashioned because i think they would look better if done more evenly thoughout your hair as opposed to starting several inches down.

that being said, i think some of the more subtle highlights that are on the wavy hairstyles look good. but the ones where you can clearly see it is wayyy light far down and completely untouched near the scalp look kind of sloppy to me-- and you definitely are the opposite of that .
The best thing i have heard in a strip club to date:
customer: we should get married right now! we should get a shotgun marriage!
me: uhh... i think you are misunderstanding what a shotgun marriage means. A shotgun marriage means you knock me up and my daddy shows up at your door with a gun and forces you to marry me and raise the baby. You mean elope.
customer: hmm... nah actually i will take the shotgun marriage. At least then we would be having sex.

I personally like Ashley Simpsons (that IS Ashley Simpson yes?) ombre. It's one of the more dramatic but I like dramatic.

Personally I like the blend on Jessica Biel's hair, it doesn't look like overgrown highlights. Unfortunately its not the cool-violet colour tone you're talking about....

IMHO its way superior to Ashley Simpson/Kim K who I think look like they're trying too hard.

I think for cool shades you might want to keep what you have, most of what you've posted is orange-reddy.

I liked the last three of the second group. I had black hair for the longest time and switched to auburn and while it's a lot of upkeep every few weeks, it's less boring to me after
seven years of dying my hair black. But then again, you could always have a slight wave or a loose spiral curl added to your hair which while off-topic I add because if your hair is in really
good condition now, you wouldn't be able to add any perm (and no I don't mean ugly eighties perm) to your hair after messing with the color a lot more.

But then that's just my personal fantasy and I messed with my hair too much to do it. I do like Jessica Biel's hair but I'd get bored of it quick. Kardashian's hair is awesome but once again, you've been doing black and I thought the point was that you were bored of it?

I personally adore the darker hair with a light contrast on the ends. If you're set on a more natural look, Jessica Biel definitely does that well.

Ombre hair is such a fun look!

Maybe you know this already but the caramel blonde was a lace front wig

    Great minds think alike haha

I am very dark brown naturally, and dyed my hair black for the past few years. I am now sooo sick and tired of my monotone haircolor. I need a change and want some highlights and color, but nothing too drastic! I also noticed in the past few years, black/dark brown hair color has become all to trendy and common. Back in the day it was too goth for most! The black is naturally fading with the help of baking soda washes and acv rinses! I do not want to have to strip my hair before coloring, it will do more harm then good!

TY for the inspiration JD! I have been looking at hairstyles/color all day!

For you honestly I really like Jessica Beils and the Angelina Jolie above, they do not look to drastic and have a nice fade. For the color it is all about the skintone and wether u are cool or warm, however I know you are on the TAN side so Id go with a nice caramel golden brown/carmel dark blonde
