    Default Computer-savvy ladies

I am in need of a new laptop, ASAP.

The one that I currently have is an '07 HP that needs to go in the trash. Hinges on the screen are loose, the battery is dead so I'm constantly tethered to an outlet and the other day I had it on and sitting on the couch, the dog jumped up, knocked it on the floor and now the keyboard is confused, LOL! (B thinks it's a 2, J thinks it's a p, etc)

So, right now I'm looking for a new laptop. But I am not tech/computer savvy at all.

I have a max budget of $500, but would really like to find something a bit cheaper than that. I just need it for web, email and something that won't blow up/overheat on me while camming. (HD, SM Encoder, etc). If it could handle Photoshop and Windows Movie Maker, that would be awesome but it's not a need right now.

I don't know what computer specs go for what, etc? I've been told to go to best buy and just ask a geek tech but I know I can find better deals on Frys, CompUSA, TigerDirect, Newegg, etc as I'm trying to save $.

Any suggestions on Laptops? Thank you SO much in advance.

easy guys! easy! just replaced mine - you will want Windows 7 with at least 3gb of ram - I highly recommend Toshiba - and you will of course want the biggest screen you can afford.

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Toshiba+...&skuId=1846161

that's probably the one you'll want Sony is popular as well, but typically overpriced just for the name. Purchase with a Visa or Mastercard and check your benefits - if it fails within 2 years and you have purchase protection, they give you your money back! I've done that with 2 of my laptops so far and it's great!!

So if you want to be with me

Honestly when I found out I would be camming,I went and bought the CHEAPEST ONE I could find. I have an emachine. It costs $299($350 w/tax),its windows 7 and I use it mainly for camming. It has a 15.6in screen,is 3gb,has dvd player and a multi-in-1 card reader. Almost the same as what Dixie suggested It doesn't come w/a cam,but I bought a logitech 9000 that works perfectly. So in all spent about $400(the cam cost about $60 on sale). Don't really see spending all that much just to cam. I'm actually about to buy a mini HP(comes w/cam) for my personal use. A lot of the other ladies may disagree and will probably suggest some great alternatives though

You did about the smaller? notebook computers? And then I thought I read a post from you that it couldn't handle the encoder so I got all lost again on what to buy.

hahaha mine couldn't handle ANYTHING - if you really will use it just for camming and nothing else, a netbook is ok; but really for a wide range you're better off with a bigger investment

I insist that you ladies buy off either amazon or newegg.com
Never bestbuy or walmart or wherever else in your town

ASUS brand is a good option because they have 1 year accident warranty included, 2 year standard.

I've used my mom's toshiba that she bought a few years ago at 399 with a dual core amd processor 2ghz, 3 gigs ram, and the encoder is still a LITTLE choppy.

I'd go up a bit in processor, the extra cores, even if hyperthreaded really help!
And you can always buy laptop ram, so just make sure you check how many slots there be!

That one has 2 GB of RAM, you'll want at least 3. This one is a little more expensive, but the specs are closer to what you should look for:

I saw someone mention that you should avoid Walmart, but I'm not sure why - they sometimes run some good retail computer deals.

    See link below:

    http://www.walmart.com/ip/Toshiba-C655-S5142/15689096

The one is 3GB and has a webcam built in. There is also free shipping on it if you pick it up at your local Walmart.

I'm not going to pay 400$ in 2011 for a computer with a Celeron. Worst thing you should be picking up is a pentium.

^I hear you, but frankly it is very hard to get a good laptop with 3GB+ of memory and an Intel pentium processor for under $500. Now I might have agreed with you 5 years ago, but Celeron processors have come a long way since then and, for her purposes, I don't really see a difference.

Yeah, the more powerful celerons aren't bad, but that one is so weak! Especially since you could just wait for a good deal with a teensie bit of patience. Not too long ago I saw one of the older republic of gamer asuses on Amazon for 550 new as a lightning deal. So even though the processor was not one of the newer intels, it still had a non integrated graphics card and a design built for lots of use.

So the superdeals are out there, you just have to wait for them to pop up and grab you.

Even this one is a step ahead

I mean, yeah, it's a Samsung and boo on that but that it's still a computer that would happily run the flash encoder and still be able to handle high definition video editing.

Deciding on a laptop is way hard, though.
I've been trying for months to pick something that I'll be happy replacing my very nice custom desktop with.

I just bought a Toshiba, 4GB of RAM and 1.60GHz processor. It can run the encoder, many cams, and my webcam with no problem.

Take a look through Slickdeals. It's a user contributed deals site. I have been a member there for 5 years and there are excellent deals posted every day. If you lurk there for about a week, you'll probably find what you're looking for.

I'm linking to a search of the forum for laptops with a thumbs up rating of 3 or more. That means that lots of people think the deal is great. Hope this helps.

just some advice to save you a little money..buy from somewhere online thats not an actual store because there is no tax
    places like newegg, macmall, bhphotovideo..etc
if you buy at a place like bestbuy online u will have tax..and of course in any store you will have tax...

but yeah if you don't have an emergency and don't need the pc same day, buy online!!!
