Default Ideas for poisoning mice running around in the walls?

    I'm staying at a friend's house and he's got
mice pretty bad in the walls and upper crawl
space, and they even go visit his kitchen at night.
I'm going to go look at mice bait at the store
tomorrow, either going to farm supply or just
    the local CVS.

Has anyone specifically tried a product they can
recommend? I figure I'll try a couple different ones
if they're cheap in case there's a few picky eaters in
    the bunch.

Also, I found out you can use UV lights to detect mouse
urine (I knew you could do this for pet urine. I never really
thought about it in the context of rodents running amok though)
so I'm might just see how disgusting the kitchen might be with
    normally invisible piss spots.

Any suggestions from first-hand knowledge would be appreciated!

Oh man, Mice in the walls!! I moved to a huge house in the forest about a year and a half ago, and sure enough, there were mice. And from the sounds, larger things too.

At least for the mice, I opted against poison because I kept picturing them dying in the walls and then rotting there and stinking up the whole house with nothing I could do about it. What I did was buy a bunch of glue traps. And I set them all over the house where I had seen feces and in places that looked like would make good mouse highways. I think I caught 8 i in the first two days and then didn't hear any more for a long time. Went through it again this past fall when it started getting cold but didn't catch as many and the scratching stopped.

I know I didn't answer your question, but maybe poison inside isn't the best option? I remember one year a mouse died somewhere in the bathroom wall, ceiling or floor. Couldn't find that bugger for the life of me, but OMG did it REEK in there. And then you'd take a shower and steam it up and give it a nice damp funk. It was wonderful, let me tell you. /barf

    Good luck!

    Breeze

PS - You could always become a cat lady and have like 50 cats roaming your place. haha

Ya know, reading that again, my cat lady joke came off sounding more insensitive than funny, and I'm sorry. My sense of humor is a little on the dry side, but I truly believe that laughter really is the best medicine. Sometimes I'm just not so funny. I know you're dealing with a lot right now and I hope that the mice at your friend's place won't be too much hassle.

We use cheese, peanut butter or jam as their tasty last meal. Seems to work well

No, they're fair game for being mocked.

    d-Con. The stuff is magical.

I had mice when I lived in a house by a lake. In most anyplace near a water source, field mice can become a problem. This house had not been lived in for a while and the mice had taken over the place.

I tried mouse traps, but when a place is that infested you just can't kill them fast enough. Every time I left the damned house on so much as a brief errand, I would come back to full traps.

The mice love the d-Con and you can kill them in large numbers quickly. Once I caved in and bought the stuff, my mouse problem was gone in about a week. The first couple of days you have to replace the boxes each morning, but as more of them die this slows down. You know they are all dead when the d-Con boxes stay untouched for a couple of days.

i like the old fashion mouse traps...(peanut butter worked the best for me)

glue traps work well, but disposing of a live stuck mouse isnt the most fun.

buy a bunch of the mouse traps(they are cheap).....and just throw the whole thing out when you catch one. Replace it with a new one.

Also, you wouldnt need 50 cats....just one. If you know one you can borrow for a couple of days, just the cats presence can drive them away.

the only problem with using a ferret.....is the fact that you would then have a ferret in your house.

They are easy to get rid of. Leave a small pile of dry food out and they come out and you catch them.

Don't poison anything that lives in the wall. You'll have to knock out the wall to get the stench to go away. I watch billy the exterminator religiously and the only way to deal with a rodent problem is straight up snappy traps. Then you need to find out what they are snacking on and seal it away.
    Yes, I'm real.
