Question What Looks Better on an Apartment Application-

Entertainer or waitress(if my manager could cover for me).

I want to put entertainer but I don't want management thinking I'm a slut and will have loud parties every night(isn't that discrimination?) but then I feel like if I put waitress they'll wonder how does a waitress make $4000 a month.

If you have a manager that will vouch for you, I would put waitress.

I put down "entertaining hostess/waitress" that waitresses, hostess, manages parties and events for restaurants and banquets etc...

If a manager can agree on waitress, then write down waitress. My landlord, knows that I strip, but said to put down waitress in order to be accepted since the papers get faxed to the head office and they accept or decline the people and this place is laid back! They dont know you in person, so I would write down what looks more reiable and better.. so waitress or something along those lines.

I've always told my landlords what I do; that way they won't worry about rent ever being late.

I told my landlord I was a dancer. They could care less what you do as long as you pay the rent on time.

I've always been upfront about what I do - usually it reassures my landlords that I will always be able to pay rent! On the other hand, I have heard of girls being turned down because of what they do...

I would suggest going in to view the place dressed casual/professional (aim for a secretary on her day off...lol!) being VERY polite, punctual and friendly, and then mention it to them. Stress the fact that because you work late, you aren't there to make noise late at night, and are sleeping in the early morning, so you make a great neighbor, and you can always pay rent on time. If you can, bring a written reference from a previous landlord to that effect, to prove that you are a good tenant...Good luck!
I take cash, debit or credit. I just don't take shit.

Adult entertainers get such a bad rap. I hate the sterotypes. It's unfortunate
I would put cocktail waitress if you're worried, they really shouldnt care though. I know how some people are though. MEH.

I put down what I did, the only problem they had was that it was uncertain income so I needed to put down a deposit. They really only care that they get their money. Also, I don't know if they can discriminate against your job as long as you make money.

Since waitresses are usually hourly paid on a W2, they are more than likely going to ask you for pay stubs.

I am going through this myself right now. My husband and I are in a sticky situation right now and we have to move out of the house we are renting by July.

Make a long story kinda short, we rent this house from two close friends....so there was never a lease, credit check, or employment verification or any of that. We just moved in. They moved out in order to rent-to-own a horse ranch. Well, they are getting screwed on the deal and the owner decided he's not going to sell. So we are ALL getting fucked in this situation....they have until July to be out of the ranch and we have until July to be out of their house. Everyone's lives are being turned upside down at the moment.

My hubby and I have always had W2 jobs when we have rented in the past, so it's been super easy. I have no evictions or judgements against me and neither does he. Tucson is a stickler for proving employment though. He is working for a small business that just opened and is yet to be on a real payroll. He gets personal checks but no pay stubs. And needless to say I'm a 1099 that's WAY behind on filing my taxes.

The only thing we can provide is bank statements but I don't think it's gonna be enough. I already talked to both of my parents about the possibility of us having to come home.

UPDATE: I got the place! the landlord I met was completely awesome with me and made me feel so comfortable. I put down I danced and after she read my application she was like

"I've always wanted to become a dancer but my husband never would let me! It seems fun!"

I was in total shock and so much relieve I felt from that
I'm moving in on the 23rd. So in conclusion, if anyone discriminates you for dancing, don't deal with them at all. They should be happy enough that someone is willing to give their hard earned money to them.

Awesome! I was really worried about what I would put on my apartment application too. I finally just decided to risk it since I live a fairly liberal college town and put Entertainer with the name and address of the club I work at (the only SC in town so pretty much everyone knows what it is lol). When I walked in, the girl behind the desk who was accepting applications was a lesbian who comes into the club all the time and knew me! haha it was pretty awesome.
