Default Need advice about my kittens :(

This is completely unstripper related but I need advice =[

About 2 weeks ago, I got two adorable female kittens. They were like 4-5 weeks old then. They are litter trained. Like all kittens they scratch and bite anything in sight. One of them is well behaved, the other one, is like the devil. She pees everywhere. I bought them a fancy new bed, she peed on it. I live in an industrial loft, and they made the corner their make shift litter box. I live in a warehouse that has been converted into a bunch of lofts so my apartment is very rustic and I figured they were going to the bathroom in the corner because maybe it was dirty or something and they confused that for another litter box. So I bleached it, and the good one stopped going over there. The devil, keeps peeing there (she doesn't poop there, just pee). I've now bleached that corner like 5 times, yet still, she pees there. She also pees in the litter box but when I'm not looking, she'll pee in the corner. I don't know what to do. My mom wants me to give them to my brother tomorrow so they can be outdoor cats (he lives in the country and there are a few cats over there). They've never been outdoor cats and they're used to living the schnazzy life here in this big loft where they're warm, dry, always fed, plenty of things to play with, nothing to hurt them, space to run around, and they have each other for company. I know cats can live outside fine and they're still young enough that they can transition to being outdoor cats but I feel horrible that I've gotten them used to living this kind of life, only to throw them outside to fend for themselves. And they're small so I don't know if the other cats by my brother's house will hurt them. The bad cat I'm sure could beat up the bigger cats because she's like a pitbull. The good kitten, she's more relaxed and I don't think she'll do good outside but that's just cause I see how she is here in my house.

I know that I could pen the kittens up in my house so they are limited to a small area, but they're getting bigger and they've been free to roam around my house for the last 2 weeks so I don't want to put up a playpen for them now. I guess I should have done that when I first got them here. And now I don't know what to do. On the one hand, I live in a big city and every time a truck drives by, these poor kittens are running for cover so I'm sure they would like to live in a more quiet peaceful environment like by my brothers house. On the other hand, although my brothers house is picturesque with a creek and plenty of land to run around on, there are other cats over there already and these kittens are used to the indoors already so I don't know.

    What should I do?

One of my kitties is an idiot and chose a pee corner too. I used to go nuts cleaning and mopping there. I have no idea how to 'train' him not to do that. He's a CAT, cats don't give a shit. The one thing that makes his corner tolerable now, is the fact that I lined the area with puppy pads. Now he pees on the pads and at the very least, those are easier to clean up.

They were 4-5 weeks old when you adopted them? That is waaaaaay too young. It's recommended that kittens stay with their mother until 12 weeks, and they typically learn how to use the litterbox from their mother. I understand that's not possible in every situation, like perhaps their mother abandoned them or the kittens were dumped somewhere, but I suspect that is the root of the problem.

The kittens WILL learn with time to go in the litterbox. would it be possible to move the box to that corner for now? You can eventually moved the box somewhere ele once they get good at using it.

Adopting very young animals is always difficult. I know it doesn't help now but if you want a litterbox trained cat, you should adopt an adult cat. There are so many in need of homes that get constantly passed by for the cute little kittens.

I used to have a cat that pooped in the oddest places. SMH Like she would crap on the glass underneath my coffee table... thinking about it still makes me mad! I used to use this stuff in a red and white bottle, I think it was called Nature's Miracle or something like that. Apparently, even after you clean it up, the cat can still smell the scent there and will continue to pee in that spot. Nature's Miracle (??) neutralizes the enzymes.

Another thought is that maybe they don't want to share a litter box? When I lived with my sister, after my cat used her cat's litter box, her cat didn't want to use it anymore.

You are a better cat mother than I. I love them, but I can't with the peeing everywhere. I work way too hard for this apartment to be coming home to it covered in piss. If she wasn't regularly using the litter box then I would probably have more patience with her cause then she just hasn't picked up training yet. But for her to use the litter box regularly and then also choose to pee in random spots is just annoying. She knows where to pee.

I never thought of that. I hope they aren't on their high horse so much already that they can't use the same litter. The bad one uses the litter box the majority of the time though, but it's like every time I clean up the pee in the corner, she'll pee there once again. If I leave the pee there for 12 hours, she won't pee there. But the second I clean it up and walk to put the mop back in the bathroom, she'll run over there and pee again. She's doing it to spite me.

Yeah I know they should have been older. I don't know what the story was with their mother but a lady that my mom works with had them and was trying to get rid of them and they ended up with me.

They are litter trained though, the good kitten hasn't had an accident anywhere but the box since I originally bleached the corner, the other kitten who is just all around wild, is the one that's peeing in the box and then on everything she likes. The wild kitten doesn't act like a domestic house cat.

Moving the litter box is a good idea.

I'm worried though that I try something for a while and she still doesn't catch on and then she's left older and really used to indoor living and unable to make the transition to outdoor living.

They are both really young. Maybe try the two litter boxes thing. Idk that bringing them out to ur brother's is a good idea right now. U r right they may not be able to fend for themselves. Or maybe put them in a decent sized portion of ur place w the puppy pads...I think u should keep trying. Kittens are a handful. They take alot of patience and trying out different things. Animal rights really gets to me. Wish I could save all animals......I just dont have the means...

awww this is sad. i love kittens so much but can not handle the scratching and peeing.

i did try to take my neighbor's indoor cat outside once and it was the most absurd thing ever. have you taken the wild one outside to see if she seems more appropriate there?

My vet has always recommended one litter box per cat (in 2 different locations). Works great for my kitties.

This is a good idea. Everyone has just about said it, but these little kittens have been parted from their Mom way too early and not been weaned properly. The scratching is all about not getting nipple fed by the Mother...and the peeing is just insecurity and needing attention which they haven't had from their Mother.

Gentle 'potty training' should sort this out - just let them know which is their potty...encourage them to use it and give them lots of attention when they do it right. Cats love being fussed over - and that's what these two are missing from their Mother....so you're the Mom now. Putting them outside or sending them to another owner will just traumatise them more. A little patience now will reap its reward as they grow up with you.

Whatever you do, avoid punishing the kittens....they're only trying to tell you something in their 'kitten' way.You just need to find out what - that's all.

It sounds like the kitten has behaviour problems. Pam Johnson-Bennett has fantastic books, you might need to resocialize them into your home. http://www.catbehaviorassociates.com/ She answer emails she is a fantastic lady.

The place she pees on alot you need to clean is with cat cleaner. it will not work with just bleech they can still smell it. 5 weeks is still very young so they are having seperation anxeity.

I susgest keeping them in one room for along time, even if its your bathroom cause you have aloft or in a kitten playpen for a while.

http://www.ilovenaturesmiracle.com/home/index.php they have the best product ever for cat cleaning and getting odors out.

HAve you called the vet about this behaviour it can be fixed since she is young enough. I highly recommended keeping them indoors and when they are about 6 months old , sometimes even 8 weeks to get them both spayed.

Allie Cat Allies can help they are great organization.

IF you give them to brother and put them outside, the other cats will not like them, and they will not be able to fend for themselves from the wild life outside. its a horrible life for any cat.

As for the city noisey they will get use to them over time, either they will still hate them but tolerate it or just ignore them completely.

2 littre boxes is must I am in a small apartment I have 2 sometimes 4 boxes in my apartment. I am no longer foster cats anymore but sometimes it comes to that when I am having that many boxes in the house.
