I agree.. Timing things to go with your music helps A LOT with stage tips. It makes you look like more of a performer who has her shit together.

On the spinning poles I like to go into fast spins during a fast part and come down into a split... any pole tricks should go with the music.

Also, I like doing slow dramatic poses when the music slows down at the end.

I get told all the time that I must have a dance background.. which, I don't. A good stage performance for me translates to more dance sales that night. So I put thought into my music choices and dancing.
I like to party.. So I like my Jesus to party too.

What a great post!! There are so many benefits to having a great stage performance--and it is possible to keep it incredibly clean yet still get attention and rake in the money.

Thinking out of the box is a great way to get attention. Everyone at my club walks down that runway so I thought, hey--I'll do a cobination of splits and summersalts until I get to the pole. It's something that is so different that it is an attention grabber.
Even the pole. Everyone mounts themselves onto the pole from a standing position, so I'll pull myself onto the pole from the splits on the floor.

The whole point is that anyone can do something different that becomes your own and enables you to stand out=) Be creative!

I love this thread. It's obviously in response to the recent stage-diving conversations running around SW, lol. I work in a club (city?) where stage-diving is the norm, and it's only thanks to all the SW wisdom that I feel like I won't have to learn how to do the "$1 lap dance" tricks. I would love to hear any tips on how to improve my stage show - without having to sit on someone's face.
New dancers (like myself) usually learn on the job by watching what the more experienced dancers do. If you don't want the stage-diving culture to perpetuate, keep bringing us great ideas like these so that we'll know our alternatives!

I agree. There is also alot of things you can do that are impressive if you get yourself flexible enough.

I cant do splits, but I do other things. In my club, there is a lot of booty-popping/twerking going on, So I've learned to do that. I can also "pop" my boobies, which gets me tips from women customers when I do it for them.

There is one girl at my club who does a lot with her thong. We have to take it off, since it's a nude club. But she does it so sexily. She'll first roll onto her stomach, and reach back to grab the thong and loops it around her heels. Then she flips her legs to one side and smacks the floor. She'll then unloop the thong and roll to her back and spread a little bit, grab the thong and stretch it at far as it'll go.

Doesn't sound super-sexy on here, but in life it is. She also has mastered the fuck-me bedroom eyes and expression. Guys eat it up.

Another girl with kinda do a headstand, but it's balancing on her forearms and then she does different things with her legs. She can't do the splits completely, but she'll land so it's ALMOST splits, then pops her ass.

Another girl with get close to the pole facing it, reach down with her hands, then flip up so her ass ends up against the pole and her legs spread in a V while looking away from the pole. She normally ends up grabbing the pole with her legs then hoisting herself up.

Come to think of it, we have a lot of acrobatic dancers...lol A lot of girls do pole tricks, splits, flips, somersaults, handstands, etc...

All this stuff also takes practice and working at it. Stage diving is easy and doesn't take much practice at all so many girls will go for what's easy versus what's impressive and actually takes skill.

Some of those stage diving tricks do not look easy/lacking skill to me. The most popular stage diving trick in my area is to flip into a headstand on the custy's chair, with the dancer's head in his crotch and her ass in his face, shake it for him, and then flip back onto the stage.
I'd rather practice climbing the pole or streching into the splits, personally - in my opinion, those kinds of things are easier, you can practice them at home (the flexibility ones, at least) or before it gets busy, and you don't have to give it all up for next-to-nothing.
Even so, I'm sure that some girls will go for the stage-diving tricks, whether because they think it's easier like you said or because they're looking for attention, or whatever reason makes people decide to do what they do. But - At least by providing ideas for alternaives, girls (who read this thread, anyway) won't feel like they HAVE to do it to compete.

Agreed ^. I also really like taking pole class. You learn so many cool tricks & spins to do on stage in between interacting with the customers.

I admit I was a bit of a stage diver when I first started. *blush*

It was mostly because I didn't feel comfortable on stage yet and it felt easier than standing awkwardly at the pole. These days my routine has an almost burlesque feel to it; I dance sooooo sloooowly and do cheesy things like take off my scarf if I'm wearing one, wrap it around the guy's neck, and pull him in close while making big time bedroom eyes. They melt. It's hilarious.

One girl at my club will take the ice cubes out of a guy's drink and rub them down her neck and on her nipples. I don't want to steal her move but it looks *so* sexy.

To me, a well-crafted stage routine looks much nicer than stage diving. Stage diving might look nice to the person it's being done to at the time, but what about everyone else in the room? They're feeling completely left out until it's their turn - whereas if you're putting on a full routine everyone gets to enjoy it and feel like they're included in your attention. I've been told I'm a very slow dancer, I do a lot of posing and cute little hip bumps into the pole, or wrapping one leg around the pole to show off my thighs (I'm curvy a la Marilyn Monroe - but a redheaded version) etc....but I make sure to present my routine to all sides of the room. It's flirty and fun and guys still feel like I'm interested in them and I get their attention by being cute and sassy and pulling out little burlesque tricks!

Everything I just typed up disappeared! Ugh... I guess this will be the condensed version.

First, I will totally admit that I've become a bit lazy over the years. I love this job, but I'm not likely to do anything that requires a ton of physical energy or will leave me scraped/bruised. A lot of things I've learned come from that idea that simply thinking/planning more means that in the end I can earn the same by less effort. Work SMARTER, not HARDER... & keep in mind we are in the business to tease not to please.

With that in mind, there's a book I read when I was about 16 or 17 called Games Mother Never Taught You... I highly recommend that every woman read it. The basis of it is that women (less the new generation than the older ones) grow up learning to do all these individual things like dance/jump rope/gymnastics where everything is very black & white. By contrast boys grow up working in teams from sports & the rules tend to not be so definitive... thus they learn how to bend the rules without breaking them. Women often need to really take a look at the rules then sit down & think about how we can bend them without breaking them, until at least they get in the habit of doing so regularly & starting thinking about it "on their feet".

Stage diving is really a club to club thing but also tends to be regionalized. As such, I tend to go with the flow but stay on the tame side of things. If entertainers are doing things that are illegal then it's probably best simply not to work at the club. If there's not anything illegal about what other entertainers are doing then maybe they are actually playing to full advantage, but if they are just barely crossing the line then chances are that you can bend the rules a bit while still operating within the confines of the laws. Keep in mind that your own version of modesty & trashiness will effect how you see what others do. If you don't like what they do, or you interpret it in a negative manner, simply do not follow suit. Otherwise, if you see other entertainers stage diving then check the local laws & ask your manager about doing things like coming off the stage or how much of your body can be off the stage. Customers do want personal attention & there are plenty of things that you can do to interact with them that can be done with class.

Sitting on the ledge or coming off the stage:

    - Photo Link - I do that pose on the ledge a lot & run my hand along the stretched-out leg. Can be done between customers so multiple view.

    - Walking behind the customer to give a quick back rub (or just run your finger across the small of their neck), running your hands along their chest after & giving them a hug from behind. Its cute & other people will turn to look.
This video has some examples of how a performer can walk behind a customer & make it seem intriguing... although they don't do exactly what I describe. Lots of me love the idea of dancing with a lady though, so don't be afraid to encourage him to stand & do a simple spin with a nice pose similar to what these girls do in the choreography... just don't "rub" up on them.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKjPjQ7KXtY#t=4m44s

    - Walk next to the customer & use their thigh to prop your foot on. Lean your body over, run your hands along the calf/thigh & flip your body back up.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNGgu...=related#t=15s

    - Come off the stage & use the "lean back" pose from a customer's lap. People love this because it's a very feminine pose.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNGgu...=related#t=22s

    - If you see a man sitting with multiple women who are dressed casually try doing the "devil's horns" from his hair. He may not be fully amused but the girls probably will be laughing just because you're doing something to embarrass him, & it's unique so they'll also be more likely to tip extra. Rubbing his cheeks & patting him is also a nice "bonus".
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7-f28sle3g#t=6s

As long as stage diving is allowed at the club & you aren't grinding in customers laps, or sticking your chest in the customer's face, it's not likely many would take offense to you using the above moves.

As far as things that don't involve coming off the stage, don't get stuck on the idea that you are a dancer. If you were just a "dancer" then people wouldn't pay you to talk with them, drink with them, etc. You are ENTERTAINERS! Keep that in mind & use it to your advantage. There are tons of ways to entertain people & they don't always involve being sexy.

    From the stage you can:

    - Bring on props to use for magic tricks, elegance, etc. Ask managers about doing messy shows... this aren't something that have to be "just" for features. Just be respectful of making sure that the stage is clean & that you get off it before the next girl's set starts.

    - Play games with the customers... i.e. cooterball or something

    - Learn to do money oragami

    - Tell jokes, or simply something funny you once had happen on stage

    - Do something silly or impressive that they wouldn't expect: back flips, jumping jacks, the running man... patty cake. Whatever... sounds dumb but it works - especially if the guys like funny girls or their are women around.

    - Use a style of dance that no one else in your club really uses. I do a lot of choreography from the 40's when I dance & will use Frank Sinatra songs even at the gentlemen's clubs. You can do something like that, or incorporate Latin dance, interpretive dance (lots of funny moves), etc. You can mix it up to show off different styles too. I always do my higher energy/cutesy stuff as either my first or middle song, & the ultra sexy dances last. This helps you to attract a wider customer base who like different things in women.

As for pole tricks & splits... both are common. I've said many times that customers rarely tip for pole work. I have climbed poles that were 2+ storeys before. Yes, people get excited & holler. Did it increase tips? Nope. Plus, why do that to yourself? You are building heavy expectations. One of the things I hated most was having people who expected me to do that stuff when I was already feeling lethargic from working too many days or simply from not getting enough sleep, etc.
    Don't you ever sleep?
Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.

Another way I started making more tips is removing my clothing in very sexy, cute, deliberate ways. Panties/Skirts I do a slow bend, making sure I show off my legs and bum. I unhook my bra looking over my shoulder, remove one strap , then the other ... strut across the stage making eye contact with as many men as possible holding it over my breasts before I show the girls off. Nobody makes it "rain" for this, but, they'll slip a 20 in your garter and tell you to come see them later..

also, everyone has their own opinion on pole tricks. I think the key is.. less is more.. Do a few tricks you do very well and do them at appropriate times..

I am not a fan of the stage diving trend.. just like I wasn't a fan of the smacking men with your ass trend that was rampant in my club last year. I like to use the whole stage and make as many connections as possible.. I want to earn Benjamins not Washingtons!!

I'm also loving a lot of what I'm reading on this thread.

One of the absolute best things you can do on stage is HUSTLE. This works sooo well if you're in a smaller club with fewer customers. Pick out the 1-2 customers you think have money and gear your entire set towards them. Eye contact is key. But so is conversation! Be super sexy while you're dancing, then drop to his level, give him a smile (sexy or just happy), and say "Hey you! How's your night goin'?" At the end of your set, once you have him hooked, say "I'm about ready to get off stage...we should keep this going in private!" This is great, because 1) If he doesn't want to do any dances, then you won't have to waste your time / look like a moron by pursuing him when you get off stage, so you can at least move on to other targets and 2) chances are, he'll want a dance.

I'm still all for improving my stage show. I love some of the tips in this thread, and have been trying to put them to good use. I would love to hear more - if you have some great ideas for stage show moves that don't require the dancer to hump someone's face for $1, please share!

Stage diving is so rampant in my town. The girls that do it do sometimes make a lot of money on stage, but I'm learning that I can compete without having to do that to myself. I'm always looking for great ways to improve my stage show so that I can stand out to customers among a sea of stage divers (stand out in a good way, of course).

Especially because they often feel pressure since they're being 'watched' by everyone in the room. So it adds to his desire to say "yes".

I have never seen this mysterious "stage diving", but it sounds really stupid to me. Well maybe once, I'll tell you about that in a moment.

I enjoy being an actual PERFORMER. I love picking fun music at first (I LOVE Erotic City by Prince! It's such a happy song!!) and then turning to Every Day is Exactly the Same by Nine Inch Nails (bad ass second song) and then a slow song like Sour Girl by Stone Temple Pilots. All of these songs sound like they could never work together, but they do. I sometimes will do Erotic City and then a Madonna song and them do Michael Jackson (Billie Jean or Dirty Diana). There is also another song called Human Nature by Madonna that works well for a slow song at the end of the three song set.

I love DANCING...not all that booty popping/twerking stuff. That really was not the deal at my club and I remember once a chick "stage dived" me...yes another dancer stage dived me (I didn't really know her that well too)....and her unshaven, odor-ridden twat rubbed up against my chest and neck. First thing I thought was "I think I'm going to hurl..." and then secondly I was like, "owwww....soo...much...stubble!"

I saw a VERY bad accident happen because a girl did this and the chair fell backwards.

I prefer pole tricks. you can control your body on the pole. you can't control what the customer is going to do with your head in his crotch especially if he's drunk.

I do tricks with my tips lol. Its kind of hard to explain but I fold the dollar bills in half and stack them on my nipples, so far my record for the amount I can stack is 30 1's on 1 nipple. It looks a lot harder than it is and the guys go crazy over it, usually they sit there in shock like how do you DO that lol. They just keep sitting there with their jaw dropped and continue giving me more 1's to see how many I can stack while I'm laughing my ass off on the inside. It sucks cause other girls are stealing my trick but I'm still the only one that can put that many 1's on mine. I just hate it when I go to do MY trick and the guys are not as impressed, they are just like oh you can do it too, whatevs, grrr come up with your own shit.

Yeah, that would annoy me especially since it's a pretty unique trick. ^

I don't interact with customers on the stage. I'll smile if I'm on the floor but I don't let customers touch me under any circumstance.

What gets me the most tips is doing pole drops. I drop from a 30 foot pole so guys are always impressed and tip me well because it's so dramatic. I also do more tricks than any other girl can do so that in itself is impressive (even to other dancers).
