Angry AHH! that damn dancer's permit....

ok so i havent neccessarily auditioned yet but im trying to plan ahead for when i do get hired and end up having to pay for the permit.....im just having a REALLY REALLY hard time gathering money to pay for it...
im in atlanta and will be working in dekalb county..
    so it comes to $300..
ive already used all sources-bank loans, credit cards, friends/family..
do u guys know any other way to obtain money?
or know any clubs in atlanta that DOESNT need a permit or hires u and just lets u work for the permit?

I danced in SC and I remember girls there talking about how the Atlanta permit sucks but there is one club that doesn't require a permit, on the outskirts of town. BUT apparently it's a giant sleaze-fest because of that, so I'm not sure it would be worth it. Make sure you know what club you'll be working at because from the way I understood it, the permit was by county, so you don't wanna get a permit for one county, and then not get hired there and have to start over for a club in another county.

Have you asked the clubs you want to dance at if they have a grace period? Some will let you work a week or so to make the money for the permit and if that was the case, you could just work mad long shifts to make sure you definitely had it by the time the week was up.

Also have you thought about driving the 2 hours into SC to make the money initially?

i guess i could call up a club and ask what music they play?? :/
and i heard most of the clubs in atlanta that DO do the grace period are hole-in-the-walls or they're ghetto..ha eeek

I remember a poster by the name of Harleigh HellKat mentioned that there was no permit required in La Grange. I could not find the post but I don't have the time to do a thorough search right now. It is only an hour and a half from ATL so maybe you could go there to make the money for your permit.

Now this obviously isn't the case for every club but I am very glad I decided to audition at one of the "ghetto" clubs instead of cutthroating for $50 with a bunch of barbies.
hmm yeah i didnt think of it thaaat way..
    i ll take that suggestion!
just hope they allow grace periods so i can work off the permit
    thanks!!

I grew up in Athens outside Atlanta and I know there are two clubs there, Toppers and Chelsea's, they are both small and divey but the girls are not dirty, and I am 90% certain you dont need a permit, its in Clarke County not Fulton County. It would be a 45 min to one hour drive depending on traffic but thats a lot closer than South Carolina! You will def make more money in atlanta but you could make that $300 for your permit in a few nights, tops.

Do you go to club and get hired THEN get the permit? Will they let you try out without a permit in ATL?

I keep on hearing about the ATL but unless you live there it's really not worth it for the permit fees is it?

Which clubs are WORTH trying from your experiences?
And is there an age limit law on alcohol clubs (I'm 20)?

Try signing up with some agencies in your local area. They do offer more private party entertainment... and is great cash and less time.
They also can help you if you need to work on getting a permit.

Pawn shop. Go get a 3 month contract, take in some old gold you never wear, and get your $300 bucks. When you make it back from working then you go pick up your jewellery by paying the $300+interest fee (which can be high, but oh well, you take what you can get). If you don't like the jewellry then don't go pick it up and they keep it. Either way, you'd get a small loan for a short time.

You don't have to live there, but from what I know you'd better travel often just to maximize income. It's not one of those drive out to work fri/sat then go home type of cities. Of course, YMMV.

If you are still looking, Mardi Gras in the Sandy Springs part of Atlanta did not require a permit to work there a few back; it's more to the North Side of town though. By 285. The money is ok, and the management on dayshift is decent. Many girls go through there though, but it could be your saving grace to work there for a few before venturing out and trying another place where a license is required.

LaGrange has commotions. Not sure if they are hiring - good managers, but money is less than in most Atlanta clubs. Mostly local customers and many hunters go there. I worked there for about 5 months. Over an hour drive from South Atlanta, so it's a bit harder driving wise than remaining in Atlanta.

If you are going to be trying out anywhere - try out and audition BEFORE you get your license. Perhaps even go visit the club and sit as a customer for a few hours one night getting a feel for the place. 300+ dollars to pay to realize you can't stand the club in after thought is worse than spending a few $$$ observing the club vibe. Do not be afraid to ask a club if they will give you a grace period on the license, some WILL do it -- some won't.

If you are a really good dancer and want to get a feel for a club before saying yes to it, here is something that almost no one knows about. Many clubs have an amateur contest once a week. Not only do you get a feel for the vibe without a license, but you also may win some money, get to see the dressing room, feel the customers and otherwise get to chat to girls and house mom. I did that with an urban club in Atlanta and walked out with 270$ cash prize as well as knowing I would have loved working there; if they had they had the openings that month and my drive would have not been over 2 hours each way getting there to keep asking if they had openings every week.

I don't mind trying... are there any age limits at Strokers , Pink Pony, Cheetahs, or Onyx?

Try boomers in marietta. no alcohol and its 18 and up but the permit is only 50 dollars. its open 7 days a week at night. you wont make much there but 50 is a lot easier to come up with than 300-350
