Default Remedies to relieve PMS/PMDD symptoms

I have PMDD (if anyone has it let me know I would kind of like to chat with someone about this...) For the past week my tits have been sore as hell my back feels like someone is kicking me in the back over and over or poking me. I have tried taking ibuprofen doing heat packs etc. Nothing works! Anyone have anything that works for them? I know everything will go away the day after my period. I am in SERIOUS pain right now.

    aww, hugs.

I have PMDD, but my symptoms are more emotional than physical. I get extremely depressed and irritable right before I start. I had a doctor who put me on lexapro for about a year to alleviate this, but I gained ten pounds, and that made me more depressed! So I quit the lex and just deal with the pre-period blues.

Feel free to pm me if you just want to talk. Feel better

Thank you! Mine are both emotional and physical. You have no idea how many friends I have lost and destroyed other things before I figure out a week and half before my period begins I just need to vanish. Is there anything you do to help fight it? Thank you

Diet and exercise are my best weapons. I avoid excess sodium and sugary/carby foods (I try to do this anyways, but I'm extra careful during this time), and I drink a ton of water...this helps combat the bloat. When I'm feeling that "I can't deal with anyone or anything or I'm going to fucking flip out on you" mood, I head to the gym, out for a run, or get on my bike. For me, the natural endorphins I get from exercise helps a lot. You may also want to try 5-htp or sam-E (but be sure to do your research on drug interactions if you are currently taking anything else) - these are natural anti-depressants.

I struggle a lot with the emotional/physical, too. Constantly exhausted. Don't want to do anything. Angry. And I, too, have done a lot of emotional damage. Ugh.

I have fibromyalgia with PMDD and it is hell. You can message me at anytime if you want to talk about it. My is physical and emotional and me, like other who have posted have lost friends, relationships and even have hurt myself until i was able to understand this disease.

If your doing ibuprofen you want to take 800mg (2x higher than recommended) every 8 hours for few days before the pain starts. I am on several legal prescription medications that help me, if you message me I will tell you about (i don't feel comfortable promoting prescriptions on an open forum).

What helps me and my boyfriend is we track it through our calendars, and have set up phone alarms so when I start to go crazy we know why and then I can sedate myself. Also, diet, exercise, no alcohol help. You can also try acupuncture and research a good OBGYN that specializes in PMDD treatment. It's a difficult disease and its nice to know i am not alone.

Just here to echo that that consciously making a point to do serious cardio and consume healthier fats (esp ones that contain DHA, that can help alleviate mild depression) helps a bit with the emotional impact of PMS. I try super hard the week before I know my period is coming to try to do these things - when I forget (half the time tbh) it sucks so bad. It doesnt take the edge off 100% but it has an impact.

I have the physical effects something incredible - especially the fatigue, mood changes, and weirdly I get a fever? Exercise helps with the fatigue though but the other symptoms can be awful.

If you have it something awful like I do - asking your Dr for a women's health specialist of some sort can help. I love my primary care Dr but she sometimes spaces out when I talk about my PMS so she gave me a referral (well, I asked for one).

[I know this thread is super old but just adding in my .02 for anyone who is a PMS beast and have tried everything or are out of ideas and need an expert's opinion. Sometimes a specialist may be a helpful addition to your method of treatment]
