Default Coarse hair - Paul Mitchell Skinny serum or Redken's smooth down??

I am an african american and i heard great things about both products. I use garnier anti frizz shampoo and for conditioner the garnier in the "orange". I LOVE garnier
I also use nexxus heat protectant
I'm trying to find a GREAT serum to smooth and sleek my hair/edges "all day"

I like some Redken products - I used Anti-Snap for awhile - but their serum isn't that great. Most serums (all? I don't know) are silicone based and ultimately dry out your hair. Purely for cosmetic purposes I like BioSilk but its not a great longterm solution. One large bottle last more than a year, which is a nice bonus.
Toronto-based, very rough draft, constantly asking for input!

I would check out Carol's Daughter products, which are sold on their own site, carolsdaughter.com I believe, hsn.com, & Sephora. They are all natural, made by an AA lad, & have a great following. If you're by a Sephora, they've testers, if not, hsn.com allows returns w/in 30 days.
Although I'm white, I have boarderline coarse hair, was was recommended ethnic products to use by a former hair stylist I had.
I do not like Redken, what I've tried, & honestly I think they seem more based for normal, or fine hair. Paul Mitchell, not really tried.
There's a Bumble & Bumble product, I can't think of the name, maybe do a search for it, it's made for coarser hair. It is a very rich creamy conditioner.

I started using John Frida Frizz Ease 3-Day straight a couple months ago, and so far so good...especially now that Im due for a touch up on my relaxer.

I use it as directed after I wash my hair, and for 2 days it really is very nice and smooth, also has nice body and behaves very well. By day 3...not so much...but then thats when I use a serum, to keep it looking good till I wash the next day. But 2 days is a good run really...especially considering its been 3 months since my last touch up. Plus I wash my hair every 3 days anyway...so for me its perfect.

I'm also not a big fan of redken. I use Skinny Serum, while my hair's still wet. I still use a leave in conditioner and heat protectant.

Try Express Keratin from Amazon about $55 but if you hair not too long about 3 applications that lasts about 3-4 months straight, shiny and silky... I have curly/frizzy Brazilian hair and that leaves my hair amazing and so easy to do it yourself. Hope this helps.

I swear by Paul Mitchell... if it weren't for his products I probably couldn't even comb through my hair after the shower. My hair stylist uses Redken... but I tend to have less hair come out when I comb through it. However, she also gets to deal with the after effects of the bleach.

Anyhow, my vote goes to Paul Mitchell.

Am I missing something? I didn't see anything where the OP asked for keratin products.

If that is the case though, the best answer is Joico K-Pak Reconstructor. If the damage is really bad leave it in over night & rinse it out in the morning.

You have to be careful with protein overload on coarse and especially DRY hair. I went protein crazy and my edges broke off so because theyre so short I have to slick them down. I use organic root stimulator edge control and this stuff is a godsend. When I was natural, I used to use Paul Mitchells pommade but my hair would revert so quickly so I started using beewax worked pretty good. As far skinny serum the Dominican stylist used to use it on my hair when she would blow it out it always looked nice.
