Default Pole dancing still for naughty bad girls?

It seems like a lot of guys are saying things like "my mom takes pole dancing class. Pole dancing is a big fitness craze. All the girls at my accounting firm take a pole dancing class."
I know that what I'm saying will make some girls very upset; but I feel like it's an important issue to address.
I feel like a lot of strip clubs are not keeping up with the reality of modern life. Why would guys want to see strippers doing what their conservative moms and coworkers do to stay fit? Guys go to strip clubs for what they can't get in everyday life. Naughty bad girls.
I know that lapdancing will never be a big fitness craze because it is very sexual. I think that will remain a sexy thing that only bad girls do- which means $$$.

^Exactly, loren. Eerybody has seen a pole, or taken a class--it just isn't as 'taboo' as it used to be. I really don't think stripping is going to be around in the state that is for much longer, it'll have to evolve. Even seeing naked women is something that is less thrilling than it used to be since we see nudity all the time in the media now.

I do agree with BringsOnTheMen though, I can now set up my pole in the dance studio downstairs and when anyone asks I claim I am doing it for 'fitness.'

Pole dancing, strip aerobics AND chair/ lap dancing classes are all becoming popular. Also, don't kid yourself about strippers always being better at it... some of these students are really amazing. I've witnessed managers literally begging to hire students of these classes because their technique is cleaner.

However, these classes aren't teaching how to entertain for crowds or how to sell. As club entertainers its important to stay ahead of the curve. If you know your techniques look sloppy or you aren't really graceful on stage, take a dance class to improve! If your sales skills aren't up to par look into Strip & Grow Rich. If you have problems talking to people taking communications & inter-personal relations workshops.

Don't just assume you have the upper hand though, or you'll likely find you aren't earning enough to make stripping "worth it".

Maybe if they hired pole dancers in the same tradition as go go dancers it could help with keeping strippers known as the bad girls who take off their clothes and do lap dances?

The pole classes I've been to were not taught by women who had any experience with stripping. They didn't teach any real moves; the most complicated thing I saw was how to hook your leg around the pole and lean back a bit. They taught very forced, awkward, unsexy routines that involved moves that I have NEVER seen in a strip club. It's kind of like saying that Carmen Electra's Aerobic Striptease will make guys never want to get lapdances again. Carmen Electra isn't a stripper, her "lapdances" aren't anything like real lapdances, and guys CAN tell the difference, though not necessarily consciously. Maybe it's different in large metro areas where there are numerous pole studios taught by retired strippers, but where I live in suburbia, it hasn't really been an issue.

We have to face that pole dancing is mainstream. Most girls who have been taking classes for a while, and many many many self taught youtube poledancers can out-trick me on the pole, but not many of them can out-SEXY me.

That's my edge. That's every stripper's edge. I can do pole tricks (though I'm not amazing, and I don't place a high priority on it), and I will do a couple for a tipping crowd, but that's it. These girls aren't getting on stage, doing a strip tease, and eyefucking PLs.

I've never had a guy mention pole dancing like it wasn't sexy. I would use it as a opportunity to talk about all the ways stripping -is- naughty; exhibitionism, how sexy I feel on stage blah blah blah. there's something really hot about a girl who pole dances because it's sexy, and not just for fitness. Seems like a good way to steer the convo to how sexy lap dances are, or how fun the VIP room is, etc.

I've taught for many years including through studios.

The first time I ever took one of these classes was from a woman who had danced for 18 years. Granted, she had retired & was really burned out on men... but she had real experience.

Of the instructors that I know in CO now, about 10% have real stripping experience. Oddly enough the owner of the biggest pole studio here only lasted a month & I was told she literally cried every day she worked... apparently couldn't handle it.

Denver could simply be different, but I know there are places in California, New York, & Florida for sure where this is also true that instructors have actual experience.

I will however tell you that studios often down-play or discourage instructors from mentioning the fact that there were really strippers, with the belief that it makes students uncomfortable.

I actually started pole dancing athletically and had my own pole before I ever started stripping. I think it's what gave me the confidence to think I could get up on the stage in the first place... then I realized that what I do at the club and what I do at home in my kitchen is very different. I've picked up a few things from my pole dancing lessons, but a lot of the stuff I learned in them would not translate well to the club. Pretty - yes. Sexy - noooot really. Yes, a lot of my moves came from pole dancing, but a lot of them had to be tossed out or reworked when I'm at the club. Most "pole dancing" moves are for pure dancing in an artistic sense. What strippers do is more sexual. And most strippers also flow a lot better. I know my flow and transitioning got a lot better when I started stripping. Pole dancers just don't really have a necessity to learn how to move more slowly or transition better or give sexy bedroom eyes to a guy while dancing. They may want to, and I'm part of an online pole dance community that is full of people constantly asking dancers/ex-dancers for advice on this sort of thing because they want to be sexy, but if they don't have to do it every day and get good at it to make money, they probably won't master it. But on the other hand, I've seen girls in the club trying to do tricks that they have no idea how to actually execute - they just want to do a trick, and I know a lot of pole dancers who could do it much more gracefully because they took the time to really learn it and aren't just going for shock value to make a dollar onstage.

Most of the pole tricks I'm seen in the club I've also seen athletic pole dancers do and there are some very amazing pole dancers who definitely pull it off and could probably work in a club if they wanted to. But I wouldn't worry about it becoming "too mainstream." Even if someone's mom or coworker is doing it, they're probably not doing it in the same outfits, in the same atmosphere, and they're not turning on the guy in the same way a stripper does. I know a lot of people who accept each world for what it is. Pole dancing can be beautiful and impressive, but stripping is still an art all its own.

My mom really wants to try pole dancing and I know she knows I pole dance, but I'm sure she would flip her shit if she found out I was stripping - most people still definitely separate the two lol

I don't mind that poledancing has gotten mainstream, just allows me to have a pole in my living room without too much questioning.
OMG, I'm gonna watch myself on video to make certain I'm not making grunt faces whenever I do my moves.

^^^ LOL I really hate seeing photos of myself onstage. Inevitably I always feel I am making funny faces. Video though, I was actually surprised & impressed the first time I actually saw a video of myself dancing. I knew I was super nervous when the video was being filmed because it was in front of a live audience for a competition... & I never seem to stay calm when I have to compete for anything. Watching the video though, you couldn't tell.

^I completely understand that. I couldn't handle a bunch of non-strippers demanding to learn how to 'go upside down' either. It just takes an overwhelming amount of patience to be an instructor.

I have to say i agree that poledancing and lapdancing are too mainstream although it is true that most amateurs may be able to out trick me (heck, i have 6 tricks - never needed more than that and zero interest in bruising myself to get more) they can't out-SEXY me. And men know that there is a vast difference in being professionally turned on as opposed to an amateur trying to do it. One results in an instant hard on, one results in making your wife/ girlfriend feel good enough about herself that you know you'll get some sex.

Still, that said, i am about to buy a pole and with a fitness instructor friend of mine start teaching party classes because there is a LOT of money to be made from that - far more and far easier than stripping these days. My friend has never worked as a dancer and doesn't have the sexy at all but is a very good technical pole dancer and instructor. Me, i'm bringing the fun and banter to make sure the women have a good time. The women stagger home thinking they're sexy now and liberated (but their guys know that if they want it done properly they're going to have to come to the club) and I go home with a fat wallet for two hours work - what's not to like???

I was watching pole dancing on youtube and this was posted on one of the girls profiles "Pole Dancing is not stripping and stripping is not pole dancing!"

I was like huh??? Umm where does she think pole dancing came's from.

^^^ Actually that is correct. You don't have to take your clothes off (strip) to pole dance, nor vice versa.

True. So techncially they do not have to be the same thing, and most of the time, pole dancers don't strip while dancing... However, I think the comment was meant in more of a derogatory sense like they didn't want anyone to think that pole dancers were in any way associated with strippers *gasp*

I can understand trying to distance athletic pole dancing from stripping in some ways because it's just easier to get it accepted in society. I know a lot of pole dancers who face a lot of stigma of being "dirty strippers" even if they are too scared to ever try to be an actual stripper. It's one thing for us to deal with the stigma, but someone who just dances for fun and personal pleasure may not have the same hard skin to deal with people's stupid judgments and I understand them wanting to get the message across that they are not strippers (because they're not). But, most pole dancers I've talked to understand that pole dancing came from strip clubs and they respect that. Dumb comments that seek to completely separate the two because they are legitimately looking down on strippers really need to be eradicated. I think more pole dancers who realize this and more strippers need to get up in these girls faces about it.

Yes I realize that. Aurora_Sunset basically summed up my thoughts right here:
