    Default Cat in my apartment

So..... I did a bad thing. I smuggled my cat into my apartment when I moved in almost a year ago. The apartment complex allows cats and dogs, but I live in an expensive area and they charge a pet deposit + monthly pet rent to keep a pet. I've paid a pet deposit in all my other apartments but it was sooo expensive for this place that I just pretended I didn't have a cat and so far everything's been fine.

I realize now that I'm going to be moving out soon and am terrified that they're going to find out I had my cat here! I'm pretty sure they are. He hasn't peed on the floor or anything, just typical shedding but I vacuum to keep it under control. He also ruined a couple tracks on the blinds in my windows from trying to climb up behind them. I know I'm going to have to replace them or pay for it, but I'm worried if they find out I had a cat they're going to charge me a ridiculous amount! The deposit I put down on the apt was only $200, so I know I probably won't get it back.

I need suggestions on cleaning to try to conceal the fact I had a cat in here. Has anyone ever done this before? What happened with your apartment complex after you moved out?

I know, I'm an idiot for being a cheapass and not wanting to pay the pet rent but so far he has been completely undiscovered! I'm just nervous

Blinds are $8 at Walmart or Target. You prob won't get much of your deposit back anyway, landlords always find something to deduct. Worst case scenario:

Rent a steam cleaner, hundred bucks. The blinds for 8, and you lose the deposit. Might as well take your chances now than to fess up and have them try to charge you the pet deposit now or back rent.

rug doctor from my local grocery store was wayyyy less than 100 and did a great job. Agreed with getting new blinds and cleaning carpets.
    As quoted by Luckyone:
I asked directions from a genie in a bottle of jim beam and she lied to me.

I've had a secret cat several times. Nothing ever happened when I moved out, they never noticed I had a cat.

Make sure you clean your ac filter and vents. When I moved in, my landlady said that is how she found out a tenant had a dog in her apt....the ac filter was chock full of dog hair.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I'm mostly concerned about the blinds... two windows are missing a couple pieces... it's not like I can find blinds at walmart because these are sturdier/heavier. The blades are all sewn together so I can't replace one blade, the whole thing needs to be replaced... the same kind of blinds are in every apartment. They'll prob be expensive I'm just going to try to say that I broke them myself.

I got sturdy blinds at Target recently, the kind you described. 18-20 bucks. The super fancy ones will be more. But they'll prob just deduct it from your deposit.

good for you for giving a kitty a home i love kittys, and actually have a tattoo on my hip of one with fairy wings

my mom had a secret cat or two in the past and they never had a clue. heck even the damage to the blinds they probably wouldn't think twice about, its just that you know what really happened to them

If you can't find the same blinds somewhere else, either take out the tracks that are damaged and make something up about how you broke them (you'll probably get charged but only for the cost of the blinds), or replace them with a different set of blinds that matches the apartment style and looks good. I know at apartments I've stayed at, I've replaced things that were there when I moved in, and I've never gotten in trouble as long as it was similar quality.

Ditto on the air vents. Also, if you want to make double sure that he didn't pee anywhere, get a blacklight and it'll show right up. Vinegar will handle it, if you find he did.

    Yay for cats!

Girl, ... they won't know. Don't even worry about it. They just do a quick walkthrough, they're not CSI'ing around for forensic evidence of a cat.

I've only paid a pet deposit one time and that was because my mom made me (yes, I'm a child). I don't even try to hide my cat now. The maintenance man comes in, pets him, talks to him and everything...
