Default Why do clubs ask u for social security number?

I worked for several corporate clubs that asked for my ss #, then don't give me any tax forms. I claimed my dancer money, but why should they ask for it if they don't even give us 1099s? And the Deja vu club I worked at kept track Of everything so I don't get why they do that and don't send the girls tax forms? What if they got audited, wouldn't they be in trouble for not sending forms out??

I'm guessing its mostly to verify citizenship in case they are asked to provide proof that all their dancers are legal.

    A. the Patriot Act requires that all US employers verify the ID ... and most state laws require state employers to verify legal work eligibility.

    B. Where exotic dancers are concerned, if a customer pays for dancer 'services' via credit card the club must either claim the customer credit card money as club income ( taxable to the club ), or officially show that the customer credit card money was actually paid to another 'business' i.e. an exotic dancer such that the customer credit card money becomes the dancer's income ( taxable to the dancer not the club ). This is the true purpose of clubs issuing 1099 forms to dancers.

Not looking to thread hijack, but subject raised by OP begs a much larger question, namely, just who has a legitimate need to have you furnish your SSN?
Besides employers, banks, mutual funds, and mortgage lenders do. But what about other organiztions/individuals like landlords, health insurance providers, medical service providers, utilities, cable companies, ad infinitum?
    I'm right 96% of the time. I don't sweat the other 5% .......................

The Social Security Administration will tell you that no one but the IRS and an employer complying with their duties under the Internal Revenue Code and the Social Security Act have a legitimate need for your social security number. Further, security consultants will tell you that the farther from the issuer any identifying piece of information travels, the less valuable and stable it is. That being said, a lot of creditors, insurance companies and even state drivers license bureaus demand a social security number in return for their agreement to do business with you. The latter is a business deal, you can take it or leave it, so can they.
