It got stripped of funding because we all know that rich people need their tax cuts more than women need birth control.

They want you to have more kids dammit! They need cheap workers to exploit.

holy shit over $300?? that's going to extremes..

Here's a site that lists free STD clinics.

^^^ Good site to post.
My tests have never cost more than about $150 out of pocket... & I tell the guy that if he is that interested he has to pay. Heaven knows I can go without it for years, so there's not much reason for me to pay early on.

That's ridiculous. You need to find somewhere else. Hell, in some places abortions cost $5 less than that at planned parenthood, so for just testing, um no ma'am. Look for your local independent women's health service or call your local health dept. Health dept is cheapest and cost includes meds if needed. Independent women's clinic should run between $100-$215, but will include std testing, pap, breast exam and the cost may/may not cover meds should they be needed.
Thank Goodness I smartened up! The old me is dead and gone.

That is truly bizarre. I just went in for a pap, HIV and STD and everything was free, even meds for a BV.
I did however state I was unemployed (I am right now)
No, they've always cost that much. At least that's the price I'd find when I'd look them up. No way I'm paying money for basic screening I could get at a free clinic (free clinics are nowhere near in depth as they should be). All the "serious" testing costs way too much which is why I'm overdue for my own test right now.

wow birth control pills at Sexual health here are $5 a pack for ANYONE (there is no qualification process other then "be under 30 years of age") but then again I live in Canada.
That's odd...I went to them recently, and everything was free. Free birth control, free testing, etc. Maybe somehow you aren't eligible for those benefits?

Their pricing is based on a slide scale. Did you fill out paperwork and tell them how much you made and everything?

I made a phone call, stating to the woman over the phone that I needed an STD test and asked what the cost would be, and she said $305. I asked about birth control, told her I was uninsured and she said it was 25 a month for the pill. I never mentioned what I did for work.
I'll go to PP for the birth control, since that price, sans insurance, is affordable to me, As far as testing, I can find another place that will be free, or if not, at least in a price range I can afford.
I was tested a year ago or so for HIV/AIDS, Hep, and Chlamydia and I came up negative and I always use condoms.
I'll keep you guys updated on what happens

You don't have a health clinic near you?? I called one near me(don't have a reg doctor) last week and made an appointment. $30 for STD AND an HIV test!! Plus they didn't take any info about my work. Thats the flat rate for everyone.

I got charged 20 dollars for a dollar store brand pee stick pregnancy test o_O

I remember when everything was free but I was 17 at the time. B.C pills, STD test and abortions were like $300. I have Kaiser now I dont like waiting in PPH room.

I paid about 65 per test that I wanted even though they could have taken MOST of it from the same swab of the pap and I get the FULL pannel evey year (all std's, infesctions, etc), so I paid a lot more...now I go to the VA hospital and get it done for free (well not free, I paid my debt) but yeah PP is buggin with those prices! I will never go again!!
Do you have a local free clinic? Try them...
County health departments usually offer STD testing and birth control on a sliding scale price based on income and are generally very inexpensive. $25/mo for pills is cheap additional insurance against pregnancy.
I use www.stdtestexpress.com for STD testing. I pay online and go to a lab (no appointment or waiting) for the testing. Super convenient, quick and private. I believe it's $299. After each test, they give you a $50 discount which makes subsequent tests only $249. That's pretty damn cheap IMO.
I don't know what's "unfair" about STD testing prices or birth control pill prices? It's about being an adult and taking responsibility for yourself, your actions and your sexuality. You are the one having sex and it's you and your partners who are at risk. Seems very "fair" to me, especially given the low prices at county/state health departments.
