    Default DIY stripper pole?

So a while back I bought a cheaper stripper pole off ebay. I've gotten a lot of use out of it, but it honestly kind of sucks. It's way too slippery and there a seam in the middle where the two peices screw together which pinches (ouch!). I have tape over it but it still, it kind of sucks.

I was going to ask my boyfriend to buy me a new and better one but then I found some do-it-yourself instructions for building one for around $50.

    Here is one:

    Here is her using it:

    And another:

Has anyone tried this? I thought the first one looked a little flimsy but she did a bunch a tricks and it seemed fine so I'm thinking I might give it a shot... Thoughts, experiences, advice?

I didn't watch the videos but I've got a DIY pole thanks to my dad being a carpenter and me living in an "artist loft" where I'm allowed to do things like screw into the support beams. *does thumbs up*

Anywho, it wasn't around $50. I went to Home Depot. Went to the plumbing section where they have pipes. I bought a 10 ft long, 2 in wide, black (steel maybe?) pipe for $50. Then I had to get another piece of that pipe cause my ceilings are like 14 ft so that ended up being like $15. Then I got a connector to connect the two pieces of pipe, that was like $2. Then I needed two flanges, one for each of the pole so it can screw into your ceiling/floor and the friggin flanges were $12 a piece.

Then when we got home, my dad put it up for me. It didn't take long. He connected the two pieces of pipe, he twisted the flanges onto the pole, then he put the pole in place on a ceiling beam in my place and he screwed the flanges into the ceiling and floor and voila! Now I've got a really sturdy pole for cheap (compared to the price of an x-pole at least). But the pole is permanent and when I have company over, they all know my dirty secret. And since the pole was intended for plumbing purposes, I had to sand it down before I could use it. Those are the only negatives that I can think of about it.

I wouldn't trust most of the homemade poles... event the ones at clubs often aren't right. Yes, I've seen multiple DIY poles at clubs. If the metal isn't right it can be difficult to grip. If the pole has spots with "divots"/indents/non-smooth spots it can be a distraction when you are working with the pole. If you plan to have the pole spin it's better to have ball bearings than a pole-inside-a-pole... which allows even more give. I can handle some give, but only to a certain extent. I'm super picky about poles. If I think a pole isn't safe or I'm not familiar with it (many poles even at clubs) then I won't invert on it or do anything even semi-advanced. All you need to hear is a few stories of poles falling over, people cracking their heads, or cutting themselves up & you will realize why pole safety is so important.
