    Default Broken knee!!

Hey, new to this site & am looking for any input. I broke my knee cap 2 weeks ago (unrelated to work) and am in a brace for 6 weeks. I'm so worried about the appearance of my leg & body after having 6 weeks of little activity. If any one else has had a similar experience, I'd love to hear how they recovered and how long it took them to get back to work. Thanks!

I broke my kneecap, partially tore 2 ligaments, broke off a piece of the femoral head and lost a ton of cartilage in one knee. Do not worry first about appearance, you need to concentrate on functionality. The knee is one of the most complex joints in the body. You need to do physio. That should be your primary and foremost concern right now.
After a knee injury all your biomechanics will be compromised due to guarding and compensation, and you need to correct all of it, otherwise the problems will radiate and compound throughout your entire body, and with all your little stabilizers being weakened in the joint, your chances of reinjury are huge.

Again do physio, then worry about correcting atrophy and large muscle work later. A good physiotherapist will also help you get back to work faster.

I haven't actually broken a knee, but I have dislocated my right knee-cap 4 times, tearing ligaments and tendons in the process. The first time was playing netball at school...and then because it was weakened it came out again three more times.....once when I flipped my foot over in platform heels and twisted my knee right round...(really...!).

Each time it took about 6-8 weeks for all the swellings to go down and another couple of months physiotherapy to get the muscles back in tone. Miraculously, it still looks the same as it did before anything went wrong....and that is down to the physiotherapy. It is vital you do it to get the strength back in the muscles and function back in the joint. If you do that, the appearance will take care of itself.
