I thought I'd post something I came across a few weeks ago that I think is tremendous.
Like many here, I'm a massive fan of 'The Rocky Horror Show' - so when the UK's ITV television network put on a rock-musical film a few weeks ago, the description had me interested right away. It said "A transvestite rock singer travels to America to find fame and fortune but loses out to his band mate and lover". (Rock musical starring John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask).
Actually, it's more involved than that, but 'Hedwig And The Angry Inch' is partly based on the star's (actor John Cameron Mitchell) real-life childhood. It was staged as a Broadway Musical first, in 1999 - and then adapted for Cinema in 2001.

I was absolutely blown away by the film. The story is excellent (if a little off the wall), the acting and singing was brilliant and the songs are easily as good as 'Rocky Horror'. The whole thing is done wickedly tongue in cheek and with a huge sense of humour, and John Cameron Mitchell is utterly superb (and gorgeous) in the lead role as Hedwig. BTW, the 'Angry Inch' is the stub that remains after his sex change operation in Germany is bodged by the military surgeons....!
Has anyone else seen it...?
Here's one of the best songs - "Wig In A Box": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kySwhkpY4I
