Default The Burlesque Hall of Fame in Vegas

...branched off and Dixie Evans formed her own show at the Plaza during the same weekend. (This past weekend), and took Tempest Storm and Satan's Angel with her.

Have any of you local LV dancers ever been to this event (The BHOF one with the The Miss Exotic World Contest)? If so, how did you find it?

I went for the first time this weekend. It was quite interesting. I even took some master classes from some "legends". I have to admit I got vibed in a weird way from some of the aspiring burlesque girls, because I prefer to dance in boots w/ a bit of a platform that are five in., instead of the quaint 1950 style pumps for peep-toes. I don't rock a Louise Brooks or classic pin-up hair style. My hair is long, fine and curly and I don't like to mess with it that much.

Maybe I'm a bit overly sensitive, but I thought burlesque was about expressing your own style, not emulating everyone else.

    Any comments?

You should probably approach the class like any other class, as a starting point and then add your own style and flair later to what you learned. I always find it amusing when art teachers try to tell their students they are "doing it wrong". How can artistic expression be wrong? While taking the class simply thank them for pointing out areas of traditional burlesque, make a note of what is considered traditional so that way you will know when you are deviating from the standard form of the burlesque style.

I love the less traditional burlesque styles as well as the traditional ones. I once saw a political burlesque show that was all about social commentary, and it was awesome. This is where burlesque got it start, a way to make social and political statements while entertaining your audience. It isn't unlike what franchises like SNL does today.

Somewhere along the line, it became about pasties and fan dances.

I did come away with some interesting dance styles that I had never considered. It has also revived my energy for wanting to go to work and hit that stage, whether there is $$ or not.

I eventually "brushed that dirt off my shoulders" are far as getting vibed out. Ya can't please everyone, right?
