Maybe try shifting your diet? Friends of mine who have a had IBS have been irritated by different things ie: coffee, too many veggies (surprising as that sounds), alcohol... I'm sorry you're struggling with this. I know it can be a real curse. You probably don't look as puffy as you think. Could you wear outfits that cover your stomach at work, just so you feel more confident?

You need to adjust your diet for sure. There are lots of other people with this problem, so I'd suggest getting on some forums where you can talk to others that encounter this, as well as working with a nutritionist.

My opinion is go to work, but let your manager know about your problem. If it were me I'd probably pay to stay off the stages until you have this under control. That way if you need to run to the restroom & get stuck in there for awhile you don't have to worry about missing a stage set.

You may also want to have your iron level checked. If its down at all take iron pills, they will help loosen your stools & get things moving through easier.
    Don't you ever sleep?
Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.

We had a girl this winter with some sort of health issue that left her very bloated, but guys didn't seem to care, and if they did, she clearly found enough who didn't as she was always doing dances! I say give it a shot and see what happens.

I can COMPLETELY empathize with what you're going through. I have IBD (ulcerative colitis) and I very fickle digestive system. The list of foods I can't eat is much, much longer than the list of stuff I can. I get debilitating cramps and painful bloating (my colon actually gets swollen and inflamed from the ulcers). When I worked as a teacher, this was particularly hard to deal with because I had to work regardless of how awful I felt on a given day. With dancing, fortunately, I can take the night off if I'm miserable.

The self-esteem thing is also very understandable. It totally fucks with your head when you know you work out, eat right, and have a great body...but your gut is puffy from a shitty digestive tract. Are you seeing a gastroenterologist for this? There may be medication that can help. I have to take drugs every day to keep mine at bay.

With that said, here are some of the most helpful things I've learned from 14 years of IBD:

    - eat yogurt. everyday. It doesn't matter what kind, just make sure you get some in daily. IBD and IBS sufferers often have little to no natural intestinal flora, and yogurt helps with that. It also helps a lot with regularity
    - take acidophilus capsules (for the same reason as above)
    - visit http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/ and get the book if you can. It outlines the "specific carbohydrate diet" which helps many IBD/IBS sufferers (myself included - I have the same issues with gluten/grains/whole wheats that you do) - FOLLOW THE SCD guidelines. I'm serious. It's life changing.
    - when I'm having really bad pain or a flare-up, I eat baked apples. There is something in the apples that soothes the digestive system and baking them destroys the fiber, so it is very easy to digest
    - you may also want to consider a juice fast. I have done two 30-day fasts in the last few years because I was having an attack that I couldn't get under control. Fasting gives your digestive tract an opportunity to heal, and I can't tell you how much better I feel afterward.
    - Drink a TON of water. As much as you can. At room temp. People with digestive troubles are often chronically dehydrated, which only exacerbates the problem.
    - exercise daily. find an activity to burn off your stress/worry/anxiety...I'm sure you've figured out that just makes things worse.

Please pm me if you want to talk. I'm a self-proclaimed expert on the topic
