At the age of 5, I had a rather good idea of what strippers were. I knew they were pretty ladies who walked around on a stage in their underwear and did things that were 'naughty' on a pole for money. I was also very much aware of the stigma associated with strippers. Naturally, I wanted to be one. Why wouldn't a little girl want to be someone so beautiful as a stripper?

Putting me in a pole dancing class at such a young age....that would not have been a good idea. There's so much about stripping in the media that by the time those kids are 6-7 years old they are VERY aware of what they're doing and where it's most common, lets not kid ourselves.

You want your kid to have fun and be healthy? Enroll them in GYMNASTICS! They'll learn things that'll make pole work look elementary, and there are elements of dance involves too. And they won't be sexuality before they're ready.

No one mentioned anything about posing. Besides, the poses done on the pole between tricks are used to really emphasize the upper & lower regions, they are done to appear graceful & let people ponder the difficulty of.

They're not even close to the same thing... and completely non-comparable.
Stripping & POLE are two totally different things. You can't seem to separate them in your own mind, but that doesn't mean others can't. Most "pole queens" already do 70+ plus of the moves in many of those videos. They may not back-flip onto the pole or leap between two poles, but those are only two tricks. Many of the others though aren't exactly amazingly different to compare.

Re-read... that wasn't the wager. You are simply trying to make things sound more lewd.

Figure... you clearly care so much about being right, the least I can do is TRY and explain to you that children pole dancing is obscene and disgusting and doesn't compare to circus acts.

Show me strippers doing cartwheels on the poles. Show me strippers doing flips in the air off the poles and catching themselves. Show me strippers running up the pole. Show me strippers jumping up and twirling in the air next to the fucking pole.
Oh wait... none of them do that.

Congratulations, you can take pictures out of context to prove yourself right. A child can do a basic hold that is difficult for a lot of strippers... that should tell you something.
Then you crop a picture of an elaborate multi-person demonstration to one section and ignore the rest of it... to compare a single move out of 5+ to something a lot of pole dancers can't even do... What's that supposed to prove?

I could make a video of myself doing one out of the 500+ dance moves in a music video. It doesn't mean my skills compare to the dancers in the video.

    Well aren't you ungrateful.
You corrected me in an extremely rude format and should be glad to even get a sarcastic apology.

Same to could be said of you.

Anyhow, think what you want. I 100% do not agree with you. While I understand people trying to protect certain things, the pole does not belong to one group of people.

Of course I was rude. You were rude to me... did you expect that my reply would be a polite one?

Thanks, I'll continue to think what I want and not expose children to inappropriate things.

    Circus poles = pole dancing.

^Are you twelve years old? Seriously.
All I did was point out that your examples didn't prove your point. That wasn't rude. Sorry you feel the need to cry and play victim to justify your condescending reply to my telling you that your examples are worthless.
Now then... if you have nothing else to prove the point you're trying to make... can we stop with the obnoxious crying "But you were mean to me first" replies?

Pole dancing DOES NOT COMPARE to circus performances in any way other than basic moves that kids who look about 5 years old from around the world can do BETTER than adult pole dancers crying to get in the Olympics.

A spandex two piece would have been appropriate...those girls look like girls I see out the window on my ride home from work.

That being said, my 12 year old sister just came to visit me. I was worried that'd shed see my pole and want to play on it, because I didn't want her to get carried away and take pictures and start middle school with a new whore reputation or be known as the girl with the stripper sister. Luckily she didn't take pictures. But what was really cool was to see her play on it-she's a fairly talented gymnast and the first thing she did was climb the pole from sitting on the ground without using her legs at all. Pretty impressive. Nothing she did looked sexualized at all.

My take on the class: I found it was too sexualized and very akin to the beauty pageants which I also find disgusting. But I would be fine with children incorporating pole into gymnastics once they are strong enough-judging by those pics those girls clearly weren't. The only issue I have is thy kids are so cruel and it would be so easy for a girl to be labeled a slut if someone at school found out they were taking a pole class. All of these articles about girls committing suicide and getting beat up because they had an older bf, wore eyeliner, developed early scare me and I think taking a pole class would fit in the same category. So I wouldnt recommend any young girl take it, but if some advanced gymnast wanted to incorporate pole into their training I wouldn't have a problem.

    Exactly.

^ Yeah, the whole sexy clothes on the toddlers is pretty fucked up. It's just like those beauty pagents where the girls are getting nose jobs and collagen and wearing skimpy bikinis at age six. Not okay. I have a much, much, MUCH bigger problem with that than with the pole shit.

I only lightly read most of the posts..

Circus tricks on pole and pole dancing are very different and grouping them together is an insult..

I think teaching kids pole dancing is wrong and there are many other things we can teach them that can help them grow.

I was listening to a BBC broadcast the other day and there was a report about a woman who gave her 7 year old daughter a voucher for breast implants when she turns 18, and she mentioned she had taught her daughter to pole dance with a pole installed in the house.

i second gymnastics. does way way more for you than polework. as an ex gymnast i am able to pick up advanced pole skills without classes but most poledancers wont be able to go to a gymnastics club and throw difficult tricks.

sexualised tricks or not, a little girl could be spinning around on poles in the playground or subway [ like i did flips at the park n things] and may not be able to draw connections between the exercise itself and strip clubs but onlooking creeps might. why would we pioneer something that could potentially put the kids in harms way? what are they gonna say at school, their mum takes them for pole lessons. its hard enough saying that in high school without being judged as a person / parent.
hugely, hugely unnecessary. TONS of other things more appropriate for little girls to be doing.
im soo sooo sooooo glad for my traditional eastern european backyard farmgirl upbringing. i dont feel like i missed out on anything without knowing about pole classes

It's okay because she doesn't know what stripping is guise... she could be learning a sport.
And short, two pieced costumes and fishnets aren't sexualized unless you make them.

I think it's fine so long as the kids are doing it for exercise and remaining clothed. A lot of the dance moves that kids do in other types of dance (hip hop, jazz) are very raunchy nowadays and the outfits are very risque and they wear heavy stage make up.

I wouldn't allow my daughter to take part, but I don't think the parents are making a horrible decision.

I have to wonder who the parents are that sign kids up for these classes. For that matter, how did they ultimately choose pole dancing over everything else?

As the loving parents thumb through all of the available classes and activities for their little children: "Now let's see what we have here...gymnastics, ballet, modern dance, soccer, swimming...wait a minute...POLE DANCING. That's it!"
