Default How do you deal with belly fat?

I have a little bit of belly fat and have slowly been getting it down by diet sodas and a minimum of fried, greasy, processed foods, and I walk daily. It seems to be working although slowly. I hate sit ups and crunches and I'm trying to get tighter through diet and walking. What's your way of dealing with it?

Get rid of the soda, add more fresh vegetables and fruits, and I know the thing says your a guy but try bellydancing. I know alot of men thinks it for women and I know that is how it began but I also know men that do take bellydancing classes have a better hip thrust.

Even though I'm a guy, I hate looking at it and don't see it as manly. It's hardly a belly, but I wanna be tight in that area. I eat plenty of fruits and vegetables (a most) because I want to keep my diet natural and with low fat and sugar free. Oh and belly dancing, for men I actually do standing crunches which is pretty close kinda zumba like! Thanks.

Haa....yea..we are all aware of that here on SW. If u want real results u will have to do the crunches and the difficult exercises..No pain no gain..MAny of us struggle with self control. Myself included. Make better food choices and do some crunches for f's sake..

Crunches won't do shit for belly fat. Abs are made in the kitchen. Grow some discipline and cut out all refined sugar, alcohol, dairy, sodas (even diet), gluten, and processed foods. Don't bitch about something and start a thread then say you're not willing to take action to change.

Crunches are pointless unless you are dieting and exercising and not walking here and there I mean cardio like running, elliptical machine, stairstepper.....where you are reaching your target heart rate and burnig fat. You have to burn the fat on top of the muscle for any of it to show through. So doing tons of crunches will build your abs but if you have a layer of fat in top of them then it's pointless.

Diet sodas are just as bad as regular ones. They may not have high frustose corn syrup and calories but alot of them have a ton of sodium and artificial sweeteners which will bloat you. The carbonation will also add to bloating.

I have heard the lament from alot of people about "water being tasteless" and that drives me INSANE. I'll tell you what I tell everyone else, male or female, get over it!

Or try Crystal Light. I know it might be a damage to the ego for a guy to bust out a pack of Crystal Light but it will add flavor to the water, if you absoluteky cannot get past the issue of water having no flavor (which, again, is ridiculous)

I've noticed that about crunches when I used to do them that I was gaining muscle but the flab was still there. I've been keeping things low fat but I need to be more stricter in my diet. My weight is fine and I don't need to lose any but just want to be tighter.

So you want to gain muscle and lose fat?^

Sounds like you need to improve your diet.

Start drinking water with lots of Ice, and Lemon and Lime. After a while you'll feel your body start to crave it and soda's will taste nasty. That's what happened with me, and I had a serious soda addiction.

Good luck. Also, I'm seconding what JD said and get yerself some discipline! Nothing worth having comes easily.

Cardio cardio cardio.... you need to be running or swimming! Talk to a trainer at your gym about how much cardio you should be doing for your current fitness level. Typically 20 minutes 3x week, or 10 minutes 6x a week to start if your not in good shape. Don't have a fitness trainer? GET ONE!!!

also water with lime/lemon wedge and super watered down crystal light are your best options for drinks. Sodas (diet and non) do still bloat you and fruit juice is full of empty calories.

I eat about 4-5 eggs with olive oil... mono-saturated fat is suppose to decrease belly fat and that's in olive oil.

Rather than stick with soft-drinks, try unsweetened lemonade or the variety of mix packs you can add to water. They taste great and don't have the added calories and unhealthy aspects of soft drinks. As I posted a bit earlier, taking a multi-vitamin will help the body with metabolism and simply burning more calories through more activity.

If you hate sit ups and crunching, a great exercise that you can do virtually anywhere is sucking your belly in and out. It helps work the muscles in the belly region and as well targets the fat in that area.

I remember in a ballet lesson when I was younger my teacher telling us that half an hour of sucking in your belly and doing ballet is better than 100 crunches.
Maybe if you practise sucking in throughout the day it will help?

I like the tips on ice water with lemon - I'm a soda freak too, and I hate drinking water at home. Maybe I'll like it better with ice and lemon.

This may not be a popular opinion on this site -but genetics also factor into things sometimes. Keep that in mind. I try to stay away from pop & other unhealthy things -I eat alot of seafood, fruit, veggies & red meat every once in awhile (for the iron as well as spinach). if I want pop -then I try to do flavored club soda or flavored water.

I do not workout. I know that I should. I hustle hard -so I'm always flying all around the showroom & I do alot of poletricks. It is still great cardio if you do work really hard at work.

I do camouflage my belly pouch alittle by taking Sally Hansen's leg makeup (only a shade darker) and spraying it on my belly & boobs & rubbing it in then following w/ abit of sparkly bronze. It helps. Bronzer camouflages alot. I also tan once or twice a month.

    Good Luck, dear!

My belly has never been a "problem" my "buldge" comes from water and for me thats way easy to lose. I in fact do crunches and have a flat stomach in a week and a half and a six pack within two months if im dedicated. Thats only MY results though. Everyones body is different maybe you need a new workout routine you could be suffering from (maybe misspelled) platue? When your body adapts to the workout and no longer effective. When I gain weight it goes to my butt and thighs mainly so thats why belly fat has never been a problem for me...

Seems everyone has spoken on the soda thing lol

*I'm not a doctor or a professional so I'm not sure how effective all these suggestions are. I'm just relaying the most common information I've heard over the years*

    -low sodium intake
    -low carb intake
-low soda intake and other things that can make you bloat
    - cardio
-toning up and creating lean muscles (low weights, high reps)
    - corset training (done the careful and safe way)

Eating eggs is great! The old nutritional food guide says that each egg yolk is 60% of your daily value of saturated fat, however more recently it is becoming more and more accepted that the cholesterol in egg yolks does NOT contribute directly to heart disease, moreover, the nutritional benefits of the yolk far outweigh the high fat content. Not to mention, an egg is the PUREST form of protein you can put into your body! So keep eating them! I eat two eggs for breakfast, barely scrambled in coconut oil. Sometimes I will use butter since it helps with absorption of fat soluble vitamins, which eggs are chock full of (vitamin D, E)

    Links about eggs:

    http://www.cholesterol-and-health.com/Egg_Yolk.html

Be careful heating your olive oil! I use to cook with olive oil all the time until I found this out. Yes, olive oil is a great monounsaturated fat that your body absolutely needs, however when you heat it, you change the molecular structure. The heat causes it to break down into something else, that is actually very unhealthy. You want to consume your olive oil cold and un cooked, right from the bottle, like in a salad. For cooking, I use either coconut oil or grapeseed oil, depending on how hot. You don't ever want your cooking oils to smoke, as soon as they do, that means they are breaking down.

    Check this out:

    http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/healt...tir-fry-580576

I've read conflicting things about heating olive oil on the internet, but I am so used to coconut and grapeseed oil now based on how light they are and the taste, I can't go back to cooking with olive oil.
