RTT is primarily influenced by physical distance from the server. Assuming the SM server is somewhere in the US, the absolute best I can achieve would be mid to high 200's (ms). As it is I usually show just over 300 ms on the Ranking Page, which is about the best I can hope to achieve no matter what I do as I live a very long way from the server.

As for the statement: "Minimizing the data transfer time between your computer and our servers will reduce the delay in your chat room.".... that's good to know. I'll have to move to the US.

^^ My RTT is very good, actually near perfect when I don't splitcam and I am in Canada not near SM headquarters. I don't think being near their servers plays that much into RTT. There are girls who live in Seattle and I have better RTT then they do. I do however, have a good system, good internet and true 1080p stream, (USB 3.0 speedport). It is possible to up your RTT without moving to Seattle. I think the secret is to use a true USB 3 webcam/capture card. The Logitech cams are not true USB 3 webcams, they are just "USB 3 ready" which is bullshit, it just means they can plug into a USB 3 input but they are not capable of utilizing the speed of that port. USB 3 have the superspeed port which looks quite different from USB 2.

There are 2 webcams on the market right now that have the superspeed USB 3. If you are serious about camming I recommend getting the Hovercam 3po webcam. It costs around $350 USD. The other webcam is much more expensive.

New HD settings? I'm still using the same ones...shouldn't I be?

Was only able to cam for a couple of hours yesterday but it was the best 2 hrs I've had in a long time! I used the pause button hack when I got stuck twice for exclusive, one time it worked and the other it didn't.

I'm on the east coast of the US and my RTT is almost always in the Good or Excellent range. I don't have a fancy webcam either...just the C920 that most girls use. My internet is pretty good, but not the best at 30 down, 7 up and my laptop is a 2 year old i7. I'm not sure what determines the RTT but it seems completely random lol.

If you go back in the thread like a few pages (maybe like 10 cause there's a lot of pages about the glitches?) there's a lot of info about this. SM was testing new HD 720 settings that were going to be released to all models and would help placement. From what I've gathered, they tested them out randomly on certain models and sent them the setting, saying they'd be released to everyone soon. Vanessa posted in this thread about two weeks ago (or a little less) and said we could email her if we weren't one of the original chosen tester models and get the settings (which I did). A couple days later, amidst the glitches, she posted in the thread again saying that they'd decided to hold off on releasing the new settings. So I think you're fine. I use them because I like them, but I don't think they matter for placement since the official release has been paused for now. I'm not good enough to with tech to be able to tell you if they're helping or hurting my streaming but maybe someone else with them can offer more info? Short version: I don't think you need to worry.

That's great too! However, with 1080P that doesn't lag, deinterlace or skip your broadcast will look way sharper. The Logitech cams put out a stream that is limited by the USB speed when it broadcasts so there is a bottleneck. Your i7 computer is capable of churning out far better, steadier video stream with a camera that can use USB 3 speed.

You also need to have the USB 3 port on your motherboard. You could add a USB 3 card but it won't be as optimal.

Oh I'm sure! I don't doubt that one bit...however, with the new HD720 settings I already feel my broadcast is too clear lol...no more forgetting to shave! If I had the money to shell out for a $300 camera I would, but it's just not necessary for me right now.

Totally understand. The fact that I can zoom into my nipple and broadcast every pore is pretty freaky. I'm freaky though, it's my thang.

I'm not talking about locations in North America, but from Asia... but the same rules apply. The distance is the first consideration and optimization is limited by the distance. In other words, you can improve it up to a specific limit imposed by the physical distance from the server, as the speed of a ping is determined by the speed that a signal can travel the distance through Internet cables.

Signals travel over the internet at about the speed of electricity. The best RTT that I can achieve to the US West Coast is about 240 ms. The best RRT I can achieve to the East Coast is around 300 ms. That's it. That the physical limit of Internet data travel through cables that travel back and forth from Asia (Thailand > Singapore > Japan > California >to wherever the SM server is), under the Pacific Ocean and there's nothing that can be done to improve it. That's a RT distance of about 19,500 miles to West Coast, and 24,000 miles to the East Coast, but that's only the straight distance. The actual cable distance is far longer.

    Here's a much better explanation: http://royal.pingdom.com/2007/06/01/...limit-of-ping/

All things considered, my RTT of just over 300 ms to SM is very good. As I said, the only way to improve it is to move closer.

Yes my ping is also in the range of 300 & not sure if a better cat6 cable will help but it's worth a try. It's the distance that matters, this cant be shortened lol.

I have no idea why anyone is talking about CAT6 cable. CAT5e will carry any signal that anyone will ever be able to stream to its maximum capacity with room to spare. It is rated up to 1000 Mbps, CAT6 up to 10,000 Mbps. Even the older CAT5 is rated between 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps. What's the highest speed anyone would stream at on SM? In the 1 Mbps to 10 Mbps range. A tiny fraction of those speeds, even in full HD. The CAT cable rating is not even a consideration... neither is the USB port, because streaming bandwidth is so far below USB 2.0 capacity it won't make any difference.

There is quite a lot of confusion about this topic in this thread, so let me clear somethings up here for you. Firstly 1.0Gbps is equal to 1000Mbps, I think you and others are getting confused here. The connection window you looked at also is only showing you the connection between your pc and your router (or modem)... to explain it simply, this is your NETWORK speed and not your INTERNET speed. Your PC is talking to your router at 1000Mbps, but then your router/modem will talk to your ISP at a slower speed, whatever you pay for. I don't know what country you are in, but it is very unlikely that you are paying your ISP for 1.0Gbps (1000Mbps).

A CAT5e cable is good for up to 1.0Gbps (1000Mbps) and you shouldn't need anything better. Cheap and worn cables can be a problem though, replacing it with a good quality CAT5e cable might help. CAT6 cables are for 10Gbps networks (10,000 Mbps). You only need to buy one of those if you also have a 10Gbps network card, which I would very much doubt and if you were considering getting one, look at the price first (https://www.google.co.uk/webhp?sourc...s+nic&tbm=shop)

I think you must mean 1Mbps not 1Gbps. 1Gbps upload is really really rare and not available in most countries.

tl;dr CAT5e cabling is all you need

Anyone know about couple accounts on SM? My lady friend is interested in camming and we talked about camming together as well.. Do they allow f/f couple accounts? Can we each still maintain our own ? I am already an established Sm model. How is it paid? Daily pay/Boleyn possible? I did search but I'm inept or the info isn't here
    Thanks!

tl;dr CAT5e cabling is all you need

    Yeap I did mean 1MBPS not 1GBPS

I understand that I'm confusing so I deleted my posts- sounds like you have a better knowledge of troubleshooting for sure

The articles I included clearly stated that the limits that are stated on the cat5e are not met usually and the cat6 does improve when transferring large amounts of information- perhaps I can not eloquently descibe why that is- but there is plenty of information out there to describe it better then I can, which is why I provided resources to begin with

So for whatever reason- my speeds were drastically improved LOL Good luck ladies
