    Default Best Laptops for Camming

What brand and model of laptop are you ladies using for camming?

I just bought an HP Pavilion dv7 and it is CRAP for camming. It constantly drops connection even tho my internet is excellent. Gonna have to take it back. I need recommendations on what works for a replacement...

So ladies what laptops have worked best for you, and what ones should cammers avoid?

See I looked at specs and prices, at it seems like it would be fantastic:
    HP Pavilion Dv7-4285dx Entertainment - Core i5 2.53 GHz - 17.3″ - 6 GB Ram - 640 GB HDD
BUT there is something incompatible with camming in this computer and none of my computer nerd friends nor HP assistance can figure it out. Total crap.

So yes, must research the replacement.

Maybe it has a faulty wireless card? I would get it tested. According to your specs it should be more than enough for camming.

Asus, is the number one maker of motherboards used in all computer brands. They also offer a 2 year manufacturer warranty instead of the typical one year others offer. They are the number 1 most reliable computer brand in 2011, followed closely by Toshiba.

HP is notorious for problems, I have had 3 and will never give HP anymore of my money.

Anything over 2 Ghz is great for the encoder, it seems to suck up CPU if your specs are low. Be sure your internet can handle the encoder though you need 0.6 Mbps upload speed to run it, and that is the minimum.

Click the pic to enlarge, if you still can't see it ( SW makes you resize attachments pretty small) then I can copy paste.

    Toshiba-satellite laptop
    intel core i3
    16" display
    4 GB memory
    500 GB hard drive-slate

i bought this for $600, this is very good for starting out and if you are on a tight budget. but obviously there are way better more top of the line laptops out there for you, especially if you plan on making this a career. i have been looking into alienware, you can customize those to fit into your needs. but thats for when this laptop becomes too small for my needs.

it's still too small, badnews :\

i have an hp laptop w/4gb ram, amd turion x2 64 processor (2.0 ghz), and i'm running windows 7 64-bit. my hard drive is 300gb. it's about 3 yrs old (it was $1000 or so when i bought it). it's great for camming on one site but splitcamming kills it, and the encoder is a bitch so i don't use it. i'd like to upgrade to an imac eventually, or at least a better laptop that i can splitcam on.

Thank you so much BB, & BN!!!
I was looking @ the Asus, & holy moly, the prices I am sure it's great, & thank you for mentioning it!
I have a toshi satellite now, a few yrs. old, though, I do want to upgrade, & btw Vista blows

ETA: I just saw that the Toshi mentioned w/b too small, what would be, say the next level pricewise down from the Asus mentioned? Maybe two levels, ooh they're steep, even on ebay.

That is the one I was looking at before I decided to hustle and spend more. It would do the job for sure.

    http://www.newegg.com

Check that site, they also have a site that can ship to Canada.

It all depends on your budget, but, I'd pick something with AT LEAST 4GB of RAM, a nice CPU (something like a sandy bridge i7 cpu) and a 7200rpm hard drive, if possible, an SSD.

If you want to learn more about computer hardware, refer to www.overclock.net

Yes, it barely ever hits 30% CPU usage. I dont split cam a lot though. Your internet connection has to be stellar for splitcamming.

Specially the upload, which is the most important part for us who do/plan to do splitcamming.

Use these sites to check your connection

Anybody camming on a Dell? This looks like a great deal spec wise:
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dell+-+I...&skuId=1180025

    Dell - Inspiron Laptop / Intel® Core™ i5 Processor / 17.3" Display / 6GB Memory / 640GB Hard Drive

But after my HP experience I don't trust specs alone.
    Dell users anyone???

i don't think that dell would be that great of an option either, i have been seeing too many complaints online about it when i was looking into laptops. don't just take my word for it tho. you should google it and check out the reviews and go from there.

^^^ This. If you do research you will know what brands have the best reliability, and craftsmanship. Dell is pretty eh, as far as I am concerned.

^^Yup sho enough. I'm reading reviews and see complaints of it(the Dell) not being able to stay connected to the internet. Same problem I have on this HP. The internet connection is EXCELLENT here. Yet as soon as I'm chatting or camming on any site, bloop! Connection lost, sale lost.

For the computer experts... I work MFC a lot and the room gets very busy sometimes. My desktop starts to slow at 800+ users. Is that entirely internet issue or is there something on my next computer that can rock n roll through that much traffic? (This is on my desktop. My HP laptop drops connection on MFC before I can do anything) What specs on a laptop will be badass enough to handle MFC even when its that crazy?
