i've had horrible, horrible experiences with dell. i've been pretty lucky with hp, though.

I have an Asus A52F with 2.66 GHz processor, 6 GB RAM, and 650 GB hard drive. It handles the SM encoder like a dream. I love it. My last computer would overheat and die when I tried to use the encoder. And it wasn't too expensive either, I got it for $650 on Amazon.
I have a Dell Inspiron 15R (one with numeric pad)
SPECS:
Intel core i5 CPU, M460 @ 2.53Ghz
6 GB memory
64 bit processor
dedicated 1GB (I think) video card
It does a pretty good job and if I have any issues, it's with my ISP usually and their damn outages, which seems to be weekly of late.
I used to be able to splitcam pretty well even on my older laptop when sites just had basic broadcasting, but with "HD this-and-that" now, I find it best and more profitable just to stick to one site (SM in my case) even on a faster laptop.
I will, however, invest in a desktop the next time around because I'd like a much larger monitor and a kick ass system. For now this works well though .
I paid $900 for my Dell, overpriced if you ask me, but it stays cool and I also have it on a cooling fan. My old Dell Inspiron would run so hot. I gave that one to my kiddo, so when that when blows, she can have this one and I'll upgrade.

Anyone know a very cheap laptop that I could get solely to start out camming?
As I posted just recently on the software/PC thread I'm not techy at all! Even trying to learn more as Karina suggested @ www.overclock.net I start having a panic attack lol!
I was thinking instead of installing windows on my poor sad older than a dinosaur MacBook I could buy a small laptop forunder $300!?
Go ahead laugh if you want but please let me know if its possible! I really want to start camming ASAP!
Thanks!
P.S Was looking at this one:
Toshiba A215-S5837 Satellite 15.4" Widescreen Laptop, AMD Athlon

From what I am seeing on the specs that the processor speed is 2.0 Ghz just the minimum I would want for camming. The only concern I would have is it only has 2 GB of RAM. In order for the processor to keep up and run smoothly more RAM would be good. Luckily you can buy RAM for relatively cheap and install it easily.
Moral of the story: This laptop will work for camming, but plan to upgrade within a reasonable amount of time.

Hi this Toshiba is 2G CPU, 2G RAM, 128MB-319MB graphic card.
I tested Stremate encoder on my old laptop which is 2.16G CPU, 3G RAM, 512M grahic card and CPU usage is about 60-80% when I set bit rate to 650. I guess you will be able to work on one site with this Toshiba and you might suffer bad video quality coz CPU usage will be very high. I would suggest you to invest on a better laptop if you really want to make good money.![]()

I'll be camming from my desktop, which has the following specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 overclocked @ 3.2GHz
4GB of DDR2 RAM memory @ 800MHz
ATI HD4870 512MB
500GB of Main storage + 80GB Backup drive
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Logitech C510 Webcam (It works wonders!)
5Mbit/s down and 768Kbit/s up internet connection which, I don't really pay for! lol
Once I get some money saved, perhaps I'll upgrade to something better![]()

I've heard good stuff about the Logitech C510.. I could use a back up camera anyhow and my 9000 is acting hokey. I like the way you can swivel it.

It's good, it can take a very decent video at a good framerate. It's pretty much the same as the C910 exept it can't take 1080p videos.

My best camming comes from a dell with a i2 proc and then my hp with i3 ...those two get my best paying sites...I stream off of two shitty gateways and give them to the shitty sitesI still make money. Whats so funny is the Gateways are under a year old and my dell is being held together with duck tape lmao...if it still works why fix it?
ENCODING? Here is your answer to the gig......
1. Preset to "custom"
2.device "Logitech cam or whatever cam u use
3.Format "H.264"
4.Framerate "15.00" fps
5.input size "640x480" u want to maintain Aspect Ratio
6.Bit Rate "850"
7.Format "Mp3"
8.channels "Mono"
9.sample rate "22050"
10.Bit Rate "32"
Now make sure input video is unchecked OUTPUT IS CHECKED
Check Flash to main media server
I have auto adjust checked
so when u log on to the encoder it will have stuff in the "fmsurl" and the "stream" delete those and all u have to do is click on the codes and paste them from streamate...I dont know why I have to do it everytime but I do.
I hope I have helped someone Kisses Girls and lets rock these pervs world!
Well now the 510 is called the c525. Same stuff except it has auto focus instead of fixed focus.

well my dell was free...funny story..my brother actually broke it and was going to throw it away. AS soon as he said it turned on..I saw $$$$$(: Every once in a while it stops but not while in show THANK GOD! Starts right back up. I think it must have pretty good specs since it was my nerdy brothers...he would be so proud

Hi! I use the logitech 9000 and the logitech 910hd(the newest) my 9000s do great and one of those are duck tape too (some shows get out of control) the grip of the 910 doesnt hold well after a long period of time. ~just a lil insight for you..but it does have a better quality video.
I myself am looking for cams that have remotes so that when I am streaming one site when the other clicks in I hate getting up adjusting. I want a remote control so bad but Im scared to try other cameras. Any advice?![]()

lol I HAVE BEEN NAVIGATING THIS SITE TRYING TO GET BACK TO YOU ABOUT ENCODING...I TOOK NOTES! BRB GOTTA COPY AND PASTE..I THINK i BLOGGED IT IN ANOTHER ROOM BRB!

IFriends used to be decent for me during a few daytime hours..but at night it was DEAD. But I could get some pretty long shows out of it. I didn't like how I had to hit $100 for payout though, that's one reason why I stopped working there. Some weeks it took forever! And the last time I worked there, Ugh..the tech problems. Their performer forums are dead, most of the posts are old, everyone is complaining about everything.
