just following up ... with yet ANOTHER highly publicized reason why exotic dancers are not likely to be believed by the police or by members of a jury ...

(snip)A judge has released Dominique Strauss-Kahn on his own recognizance as investigators say they have discovered significant problems with the credibility of the hotel maid who accused him of sexual assault in May.
The development Friday means he is no longer under house arrest, and is free to move about town until his next court appearance July 18. The prosecution said Friday it is not moving to dismiss charges "at this time," but acknowledged the case has now been thrown into turmoil after the latest revelations about the maid.
The credibility issues have "caused us to reassess the position... about the strength of the case," Assistant District Attorney Joan Illuzzi-Orbon said in court.
The accusations against Strauss-Kahn have reverberated internationally since the alleged incident; he was once a likely top French presidential contender, and has since resigned his post as head of the International Monetary Fund.
In a letter prosecutors filed with the court Friday, they detailed some of the credibility issues with the Sofitel Hotel maid, including that she changed her story about what she did right after the alleged assault on May 14.
The letter also discusses inconsistencies on the maid's application for asylum from Guinea, where she is from. The lies, which were made under penalty of perjury, could expose her to federal charges.(snip)
In the asylum application, and to prosecutors, the maid claimed her family was persecuted and harassed by Guinea's dictatorial regime, and that police and government soldiers had destroyed her home and beaten her and her husband.
She later admitted to prosecutors that the information was a lie, the letter said.
The letter also suggests that she falsely claimed to have been gang raped in Guinea.
While recounting that previous rape story to prosecutors, the maid cried and "appeared to be markedly distraught when recounting the incident."
But in subsequent interviews, "she admitted that the gang rape had never occurred," the letter said.
Every additional highly publicized incident of a girl claiming to have been raped / sexually assaulted etc. and eventually 'proven' to be lying her ass off in hopes of personal gain reinforces the stereotype. As such, girls who are exotic dancers, escorts, or otherwise involved in the 'sex industry' now have practically ZERO credibility when claiming to be the victims of rape / sexual assault. A large pile of resentment and fear of liability is piling up against DA's and police who allow such charges to be brought against prominent Ivy League students, professional Athetes, bankers, etc. ... because they ultimately can be sued for 'irreparable damage' to the careers and professional reputations that the mere lodging of a 'false' CHARGE of rape / sexual assault typically causes.
Again I'm not saying this is 'right' or 'fair' ... but it is quickly becoming 'real world' fact ! In other words, in the absence of incontrovertible evidence like a security tape or an independent third party witness, these days police and DA's are going to assume that any 'he said - she said' situation is actually the result of the dancer / escort / 'sex industry' worker agreeing to consensual sex and then claiming rape / sexual assault after the fact in hopes of financial enrichment.
