Default Did the male mindset cause the financial crash?

I read this article in the British newspaper, The Guardian, it's about how men and their testosterone love taking risks and how the banking system would be better off with more women in the industry. Unfortunately, according to the women interviewed they feel they are looked down upon because you know they just down have the balls. And according to research women make better choices with money probably because of the lack of testosterone fueled behavior. I believe it. The gambling industry would be out business if it was not for men. The risk taking prior to the crash was unexceptable. Interesting article.

^^^ an interesting theory to say the least !!!

However, one must look at the REAL risk that the financial industry actually took on versus the 'perceived' risk. Is it risky to write subprime mortgages when taxpayers are forced to underwrite eventual subprime mortgage losses ? Is it risky to loan money to bankrupt US states when federal taxpayers will be forced to underwrite eventual state bond defaults ? Is it risky to buy bonds when the US taxpayer funded FED is 'guaranteed' to buy them back from you at a profit by the end of the month ?

The point of course is that, by taking 'perceived' risks that were not actually all that risky, the 'male' leadership of the financial industry was able to pocket much higher profits for themselves and their stockholders / investors ( at the expense of taxpayers ) than a safe, conservative, straightforward risk managed 'female' approach would have allowed.

Heads they win, tails taxpayers lose !

But do you think there is a connection between risk taking and men's teststerone levels which makes women safer with money?

^ Whether you're talking about "balls" or "testosterone" - women in power tend to grow a set, so they'd be no different. (E.g., Marta Stewart, Janet Reno, Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Leona Helmsley, Judge Judy, etc.)

I think risk taking is more of a personality trait. Also what about our own perception of each genders actions? If a larger number of women were involved at the upper levels would this be seen as risk taking or gold digging??

During the boom I watched alot of female mortgage brokers and investment advisers cash in big time. They lied, flirted, and talked their way into big checks. They may not have been at the top but they still cashed in and took the risk on some level.

I never did cash in on it. Sometimes I wish I had. I couldn't lie to people though.

I definitely see the connection. While there are many variables, men are more likely to take risks in all aspects of their lives. All one has to do is read the headlines about countless politicians losing their positions in pursuit of tail.

In business, women are more likely to conduct research, ask questions before pulling the trigger. Men typically want the results now, pretend to know what they're talking about then delegate the bullshit to underlings. Men fail more often because of this "breeding," but then just move on to the next project.
Women are more successful in the long run but it takes them longer to get there.

Clement could you post the link to the article?
